Overview
Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support our offices in Newport News and Hampton.
Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for oncology patients in an outpatient setting.
- Initiate and document appropriate interventions.
- Evaluate and record patient and family response within practice protocol.
- Prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation.
- Assess patient and family needs and provides education.
- Promotes/provides staff education.
- Serve as a liaison between inpatient, skilled nursing, and home setting.
- Incorporates evidence-based research into clinical practice.
Qualifications
- Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program for nursing education and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Two years of post Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant hematology/oncology experience is preferred.
- Experience and knowledge in the management of the physiological and psychological effects of cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment.
- RN State License and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state, along with current state certification of Nurse Practitioner or current state license as a Physician Assistant.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Must be willing to travel to the various practice locations.
