Qualifications
Lead Endoscopy Tech Job Requirements:
- Minimum of one year of endoscopy experience required, including endoscope reprocessing experience
- High School Graduate
- Knowledge of aseptic technique
- Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology
- Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
- Willingness to cross train and float to other areas
Role and Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of the patients on assigned unit. Provides patient and physicians optimal service in a cost-effective manner. Assists the physicians / Endoscopy nurse with diagnostic procedures related to the gastrointestinal tract and maintains basic care activities and services in the GI station. Assists Endo personnel by providing transport of patients, housekeeping, and other services as required by job description. Must be willing to cross train and float to meet the needs of the unit.
Assist endo staff members in the setup of all endo procedures including scopes, instruments and any equipment needed.
Assist physician in highly technical procedures such as ERCP, EUS, EBUS and ION Navigational Bronchoscopies.
Performs proper collection, labeling and handling of all specimens.
Perform high level scope cleaning including leak tests and use of medivator. Escalates through chain of command, leak test failures or scope issues.
Assist nurses, physicians and anesthesia as needed as well as turning over anesthesia equipment and supplies.
Assist staff with room turnover.
Trouble shoot/correct technical problems with equipment in high pressure situations and escalate to Bio med dept as needed.
Establish and maintain an adequate par level for all supplies by monitoring par levels and ordering when needed.
Coordinate with sales reps to allocate products in a timely manner.
Conduct in-services and training for OR staff on use and pre cleaning of all borrowed scopes.
Training of all endo staff on how to operate equipment and how to perform high level disinfection of endoscopes.
Maintain competencies for all endo staff.
Orient new staff as needed.
