The Benton County Jail Is Actively Seeking Qualified Candidates to Fill Full-Time FEMALE Detention Officer Positions and to create an eligibility list for future Female Detention Officer Openings!An individual must meet the minimum qualifications as stated below to qualify for the Female Detention Officer Positions:- High School Diploma or Equivalent GED; a valid Minnesota Driver's License, and
- Pass a criminal background investigation, and
- Pass a Video Detention Officer Test.

- 12-hour shifts: 7am - 7pm and 7pm - 7am
- 8-hour shifts: 7am - 3pm and 3pm - 11pm

Position Summary: Responsible for the control, observation, and supervision of inmates to ensure the maintenance of security, safety, operational rules, and policies of the Benton County Jail.
Position Objective: This is a continuous posting and applications will be reviewed in batches based on the date the application was submitted. Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:- Responds to inmate concerns, medical emergencies, performs emergency first aid, operates emergency equipment and reports to medical staff.
- Enforces jail rules and regulations including disciplining of inmates.
- Prepares and updates reports and maintains records.
- Completes medical questionnaires to assess inmates within medical guidelines and distributes medications.
- Maintains counts of inmates in assigned areas.
- Searches inmates and inspects cells, recreation areas, grounds, work location and other activity areas for unauthorized objects or materials.
- Operates central control, which includes, but is not limited to, monitoring radio traffic, opening facility doors, monitoring movement within the facility (inmate and staff), answering phone calls and monitoring inmate phone use.
- Processes the intake and release of detainees.
- Escorts inmates and groups of inmates to work and other activities.
- Supervises and instructs inmates in work crew activities and the operation of equipment.
- Responds to safety and security incidents and other emergency situations, may require physical restraint and control of resisting and uncooperative inmates.
- Transports and assists in the supervision of inmates outside the facility.
- Completes safety and security checks throughout the facility.
Additional Functions:- Attends trainings as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:- High School Diploma or Equivalent GED;
- Minnesota Driver's License.
Conditions of Employment:- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.
- Must successfully complete a background check. This includes psychological, drug, and alcohol.
- Must complete and pass pre-employment testing.
- Obtain and maintain certifications and licensures.
- Ability to obtain and maintain within 1-year of hire: First Aid/CPR, Use of Force, PREA and Taser Training.
- Ability to obtain and maintain within 6 months of hire: Use of Force, BCA training, Portals training, and OC certification.
- Ability to travel in with your daily work assignment.
- Ability to travel within Minnesota, including extended overnight stays.
- Ability to work extended, evening and weekend hours as needed.
- Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
- Performs physical/mental demands of the work environment requirements for this position.
- Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours, and outside regular hours as necessary.
- Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and citizen customers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Basic knowledge of law enforcement terminology and procedures.
- Ability to effectively use a computer and various software programs.
- Ability to handle critical situations in a calm manner.
- The ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain effective public relations and deal with hostile or aggressive persons.
- Ability to handle a variety of typical assignments and problems under moderate supervision within standard operating procedures.
- Ability to perform fairly standard procedures and tasks where basic analytical ability is required.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with regular contact with department and periodic contacts with other departments, outside agencies and public to relay basic information or relay facts.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:- Work is performed in the Benton County Jail and other facilities involved with the transport of inmates.
- Normal hearing and correctable vision required. Must possess physical strength and ability to restrain and control persons and ability to physically defend self. This position requires the ability to lift or assist in lifting injured persons. Duties can include prolonged period of standing or walking.
- Moderate likelihood of contact to bloodborne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and other potential infectious materials. Moderate likelihood of verbal abuse and violence exposure from hostile and angry inmates.
- This position is exposed to mental effort and stress and is exposed to individuals with mental illness. This position frequently performs work under moderate attention to detail and deadlines.
Hours of Work:- Schedule to fit a 24 hr./day 7 days/week demand. OT might be required.
Equipment Utilized:- Office equipment and computer, law enforcement equipment and tools, department transport vehicles and medical equipment.
