An opportunity exists for an occupational health nurse (OHN) within the OHSW department. Reporting to OHSW Team Leads, the OHN performs various activities including the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating aspects of the OHSW Program. The primary function of the casual OHN will be to adjudicate and facilitate injury and illness case management, evaluation of employee fitness to work and assessment of temporary modified duties or accommodation. The OHN may at times work with the Clinical Team, to assist with duties such as: Employee immunization status, administer immunizations; respond to and provide direction in relation to blood and bodily fluid exposures; and manage staff exposures to communicable disease exposure/outbreaks.
Description:
Provides services in a timely and professional manner, resolving issues or redirecting to the appropriate department. Delivers services based on current OHN best practices, critical inquiry, culturally appropriate and evidence-informed practice. Provides leadership to promote organizational health, safety and wellness. Assesses, plans and implements fitness for work plans where limitations are required. Identifies fitness-to-work implications based on physical and psychological health limitations and restrictions. Recommends workplace accommodation based on occupational and non-occupational illness, injury and disability. Advocates for employees’ rights to rehabilitation, accommodation and the return-to-work process. Facilitates duty to accommodate process. Monitors employee during recovery process. It is an asset if the OHN can assess and counsel employees for protection against infectious diseases and follow-up for those exposed to communicable diseases including potential prophylaxis and/or work restrictions required. Provides health counselling in relation to workplace exposures. Identifies fitness-to-work implications in relation to the potential transmission of infectious diseases in the workplace. Empowers employees to take actions to improve their health behaviors to reduce their risk of illness and injury. Collaborates with stakeholders in relation to health, safety and wellness services (e.g., employees, management, OHS committees, unions, ICP committees). This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:Minimum 3 to 5 years recent experience in Occupational Health Nurse setting. Must be self-directed, self-motivated, and possess strong problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel in a windows environment. Receptive to change and able to prioritize in a fast-moving environment. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Extensive experience with Cority software.
Additional Required Qualifications:Occupational Health Nurse experience and/or experience with infection control principles. Previous experience with immunizations and TST’s. Application of legislation / best practices as it relates to occupational health in the health care sector. Sound knowledge base in Occupational Health and Safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications:Membership with Alberta Occupational Health Nurses Association or other occupational health association and hold a national occupational health nurse credential. Organizational and time management skills are required for this role. Ability to use critical thinking skills to navigate case management scenarios, professional communication skills, and technology.
