Tetra Tech is currently seeking a full-time Chemist to work in our Chantilly, VA office.
The qualified candidate will:
- Interpret chemical data from field samples to assess their behavior in the environment;
- Identify chemicals of concern in field samples and define the level of contamination;
- Validate analytical data for both organic and inorganic parameters by interpreting laboratory methodologies, results, chromatograms, and mass spectra;
- Prepare remedial investigation reports and monthly progress reports by creating interactive dashboards in Power BI and Tableau;
- Conduct maintenance of analytical equipment and instruments;
- Ensure the proper preservation, handling and transfer of samples to laboratories;
- Ensure laboratory methodologies and quality control sampling methodologies are sufficient for data accuracy;
- Perform data cleaning and data transformation for uploading analytical data to the databases such as Access, SQL Server, and ENDAR;
- Write SQL queries and Python scripts for data mining and data manipulation for final reports;
- Utilize Power Query and Excel to prepare data tables for reporting;
- Conduct statistical analysis using ProUCL and RStudio software;
- Manage document development for environmental site assessment reports, including document writing, coordinating with technical reviewers, and supervising the production of data visuals, maps, and graphics;
- Prepare and review Quality Assurance Project Plans (including reviewing the analyses requested for field data samples and ensuring the proposed laboratory methodologies and quality control sampling methodologies are sufficient for data accuracy, standardization, and statistical validity).
Qualifications
Requires bachelor’s degree in chemistry and 2 years of experience in job offered or 2 years of experience in the Related Occupation.

- Science Laboratory Technician or any other job title performing the following job duties:
- Determined and ordered chemicals and supplies for laboratory experiments;
- Researched methodologies and tested experiments before implementing into the curriculum;
- Prepared chemicals, solutions, reagents, and instruments for Chemistry and Environmental Science Laboratories;
- Oversaw hazardous waste disposal and collection;
- Operated and maintained equipment and instruments such as pH meter, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer; Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer; and Infrared Spectrometer;
- Troubleshot problems arising from instrumental and experimental incidents;
- Provided trainings on statistical analysis and Excel functions to faculty and students;
- Collected data from experiments to improve the experimental methodology.
Degree / Certifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry required.
