The Registered Nurse on Maternal Child Health is responsible for the provision of direct patient care to a designated group of patients within the Maternal Child Health department. This position will work collaboratively with Unit leadership to follow the scope of practice for nursing governing bodies that apply to Maternal Child Health (AWONN, ACOG, NNA, AORN). These responsibilities will include the observation data collection, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patient's physical, psychological, emotional educational and spiritual needs.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assesses patients and families, whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex and quickly recognizes normal parameters, deviations and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental and behavioral status based on past clinical experience. Use a person-centered care approach in the development of care plans and in prioritizing nursing care to meet patient and family needs.
- Plans for care of patients, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs. Involves patients and families in establishing care goals.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, prioritizing both planned and unplanned events, and proactively addressing potential and actual problems.
- Demonstrates competence in the implementation of the technical skills required for the care of patients and families. Demonstrates initiative in remaining current on CMC policies, procedures and standards. Acts as a resource to peers.
- Interventions for the attainment of care goals reflect resourceful involvement of CMC health team members. Facilitates the linking of patients and families with other disciplines and services as needed.
- Actively works to obtain knowledge base in 1 or more of the specialty areas within MCH (Pediatrics, Labor & Delivery, NICU).
- Full time night position weekend and holiday rotation.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Associates of Applied Science in Nursing.
- Current NYS RN license.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Will obtain BLS during introductory period, ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire.
- Previous experience in Maternal Child Health.
Physical Requirements:
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g. use of the computer keyboard) light lifting in regards to patient care. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time as it pertains to patient care. Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job.

Pay Range Disclosure:
- $38.63 to $47.18 per hour.
