SUMMARY
Individual with human subject research clinical trial experience to be part of the research team within the VA Operative Care Division (Department of Surgery, Anesthesia, and Critical Care). This position is in support of the Principal Investigator's ongoing funded clinical trials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties include:
- Screening, recruiting and directing human subjects for the research study.
- Performing human subjects research and support work.
- Maintaining laboratory/clinic records including data and Institutional Review Board paperwork.
- Operating and maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Participating in research team meetings as appropriate.
JOB DUTIES
- The Study Coordinator aids the Principal Investigator and study team, coordinating all research activities for the study at this site. Specific duties will include:
- Creating and managing data and databases, from data collection to data storage/processing to data analysis and dissemination.
- Recruiting, screening, scheduling, and consenting research participants.
- Managing all submissions, modifications and continuing reviews, and communications with the Institutional Review Board.
- Maintaining and updating files of all applicable regulatory documentation (including protocols, approvals, amendments, modifications, etc.).
- Maintaining study documentation and databases.
- Entering data from questionnaires and data collection tools.
- Promoting the safety and confidentiality of research participants at all times.
- Adhering to all study procedures, including data monitoring and safety plans.
- Scheduling, attending and facilitating regular study team meetings.
- Responding to other research-related tasks as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Have training and experience in working with human research subjects.
- Demonstrate good communication skills (to work effectively and empathetically with patients and staff from diverse backgrounds).
- Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor.
- Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate and problem-solve in a diplomatic and professional manner.
- Must have basic proficiency with computer skills including at least intermediate level experience with statistical and predictive analysis, Python, structured query language (SQL), and Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Preferred: knowledge of research methods, experience with patient care or human subjects research, familiarity data presentation and dissemination, and familiarity project-based data analysis.
