Job Description
The Laboratory Supervisor oversees the staff, promotes effective relationships within the hospital, monitors work, assists in the preparation of performance appraisals, and the development of operating budgets and investigating new clinical techniques. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to accomplish responsibilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Leads and directs the work of others.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the effective hiring and training process for department staff and assigns and monitors staff work and work schedules according to department policy.
- Maintains appropriate data on employee attendance for payroll/ATM and performance for counseling and performance review.
- Addressees employee behavioral issues timely and effectively, demonstrating the ability to coach and mentor staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
- Customer Service: Coordinates, plans, and utilizes time efficiently in an effort to prioritize and organize duties while remaining flexible to meet the needs of the laboratory service customers. Maintains an inventory of supplies in work areas and requests and orders supplies as necessary to ensure efficient departmental operations.
- Quality: Assists in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement programs and participates in multi-disciplinary CQI efforts. Promotes and encourages the growth and development of all personnel by advocating participation in approved continuing education activities.
- Possesses a keen knowledge of job responsibilities with an ongoing effort of continuing education to ensure high quality health care utilizing understanding and respect.
- Consistently exhibits a professional manner, appearance, and performance in the approach to job-related duties.
- Compliance: Assists in developing, preparing, and recommending annual departmental operating and capital budgets. Ensures that periodic equipment maintenance is carried out to control hospital and departmental costs.
- Combines ethical judgment with technical skill within the policy and legal guidelines of the hospital and laboratory.
- Demonstrates initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances to promote cooperation and minimize disruption.
- Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures, and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
Qualifications
- 3 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- LSBME licensed as CLS or training, temporary, or letter of pending permit issued by LSBME.
