Job Summary:
The Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will provide psychiatric-mental health care to patients in a primary care setting. The Psychiatric Care Certified Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with psychiatrist to care for individuals and their families throughout their lifespan to promote mental health and education. Primary responsibilities will include assessment and diagnosis of mental health conditions, prescribing medications and other therapies, ordering and interpreting lab and other diagnostic tests and making appropriate referrals when necessary.
Essential Job Duties:
- Demonstrate high level of autonomy/expert skill in diagnosis/treatment of complex responses of individual/families/communities to actual or potential mental health problems.
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments.
- Work with clients/families to develop comprehensive/realistic plans of care which maximize positive health outcomes.
- Work closely with the psychiatrist to provide appropriate psychiatric care.
- Utilization of highly developed clinical/interpersonal communication skills.
- Implement plan of care effectively.
- Encourage clients to assume responsibility for their own health.
- Collaborate with other health care professionals, behavioral health providers.
- Make referrals and order tests efficiently and appropriately to meet needs of clients.
- Perform case management/coordination of care to ensure continuity.
- Observe and conform to standards of Third Street Family Health Services, including maintaining current patient records.
- Observe/conform to all laws, customs/ethics applicable to the profession of nursing.
- Participation in Health Center staff meetings and other meetings as required.
- Participation in peer review audit of charts as designated by Chief Medical Officer.
- Identify/implement strategies to maximize role of APRNs.
- Participate in good faith in the peer review and risk management programs of Third Street.
- Be a positive role model for all health center staff.
- Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Mental Health: A strong foundation in mental health is crucial for a Psych NP. This includes understanding psychiatric disorders, psychopharmacology, psychotherapy techniques, and evidence-based practices in mental health care.
- Diagnostic Skills: Ability to conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, diagnose mental health disorders, and formulate treatment plans based on their assessments.
- Psychopharmacology: A solid understanding of psychotropic medications, including their mechanisms of action, side effects, and potential interactions.
- Psychotherapy Skills: Proficient in various psychotherapy modalities, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and supportive therapy.
- Patient Assessment and Monitoring: Skilled in conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, monitoring treatment progress, evaluating treatment outcomes, and modifying treatment plans accordingly.
- Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work closely with interdisciplinary teams and communicate effectively.
- Cultural Competence: Effective cultural sensitivity and an understanding of how cultural factors can influence mental health.
- Empathy and Compassion: Fundamental for building therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Strong critical thinking skills to assess complex situations and develop creative solutions.
- Ethical and Legal Knowledge: Adhere to ethical guidelines and legal regulations governing mental health practice.
- Comprehensive knowledge of all available services provided at Third Street community resources.
- Effective time management practices, de-escalation skills, and managing change and conflict.
- Ability to develop trust and effective working relationships with patients, staff members, and other professionals.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Current unrestricted Ohio license to practice including Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse and Registered Nurse license.
- DEA registration.
- Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate clinical privileges/credentialing.
