Position Description
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
The School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites applications for a part-time, non-tenure track position as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Speech Language Pathology. Non-tenure-track faculty members collaborate in fulfilling the University’s mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and preparing individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide supervision for a total of one to five (1-5) hours per day (depending on your contract), typically supervising two student clinicians per hour. Occasionally a clinical instructor may be assigned three student clinicians per hour.
- Provide each student clinician with a minimum of twenty-five percent (25%) direct supervision. However, our expectation is for greater direct supervision as needed to meet the needs of the particular student clinician and/or client.
- Complete semester supervision log to document supervision time for ASHA accreditation requirements. Must submit written log to the clinic director and/or office manager on the last day of the semester.
- Provide written feedback towards clinical reports and observational assignments.
Essential Functions:
- Design and conduct educational programs and courses of instruction in accordance with the policies of the University.
- Actively participate in the comprehensive planning or review of the development and quality improvement of the educational programs and courses of study, assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of such programs and courses, and make recommendations to the Deans and Provost concerning the educational mission, programs, and policies of the University.
- Recommend educational policies and degree requirements that effectively carry out the mission of the University.
- Advise students on academic progress, and recommend student candidates for earned degrees.
- Participate in the selection, evaluation, and advancement of faculty and academic administrators.
- Contribute to the advancement of knowledge through open inquiry, creative activity, and research as appropriate.
- Participate in service as requested or required.
The faculty member may consider any matter in connection with the effectiveness and quality of the educational program or the professional welfare of the faculty, may make recommendations to the department chair, academic dean, or provost concerning any policies, programs, or procedures that affect the educational program or faculty welfare.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A master’s degree or its equivalent in the field of specialization and promise of teaching success and of scholarly or artistic achievements; a candidate without a master’s degree must have equivalent educational or professional experience in the appropriate area of instructional responsibility, and the recommendation for appointment must contain a statement of this equivalence. The rank of Instructor is not a tenure-eligible appointment.
- No one may hold the rank of instructor on a full-time continuous appointment for more than three (3) years or for more than two (2) years with one (1) or more years of prior full-time four (4) year college or university teaching experience.

- Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written modalities.
- Annual HIPAA training.
- Annual sexual harassment prevention training.
- FERPA training.
- Criminal background check.
- Livescan fingerprinting as required.
- An earned doctorate or terminal degree in the field of specialization.
- Published research in the field of specialization.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard clinic environment. Dependent on semester and course of hire.
Hiring Range: $31-$45 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
