Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant
Crystal Springs School seeks a full-time Physical Therapist Assistant. This position services students with motor and/or sensory disabilities. A good foundational knowledge of neurologic and orthopedic interventions is preferred, but we would consider a new graduate with appropriate clinical skills.
Essential Functions:
- Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
- Plan for physical therapy intervention required for students with direct services on IEP.
- Assist students in gaining functional independence.
- Work effectively with other departments.
- Communicate effectively with school and licensing personnel and families during student meetings.
- Support the value of education and a therapeutic environment.
- Support the mission and philosophy of the school.
- Maintain a consistent level of productivity and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operate all equipment as required.
- Comply with all policies, rules and regulations.
- Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or persons.
- Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend and reach.
- Requires extensive use of hands.
- Requires the ability to travel to orthopedic appointments with students as requested.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assisting the on-site PT in the provision of therapeutic interventions for students as documented in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and consistent with their last PT evaluation.
- Daily communication with the PT to discuss treatments, student progress/decline, equipment use, changes in medical status, etc.
- Participate as part of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team.
- Schedule and deliver the physical therapy interventions with students as determined in the IEP.
- Consult with special education/adapted PE teachers, residential managers, and their staff, as well as other professionals such as therapists (OT, SLP, Orientation and Mobility), nurses, and other school personnel as well as parents to provide information and recommendations regarding students with physical disabilities.
- Communicate with supervising PT, physicians, and service agencies regarding orthotics and adaptive equipment needs for the student.
- Communicate pertinent information within meetings in absence of PT.
- Instruct personnel in safe transfer and ambulation techniques, brace application, range of motion.
- Instruct and supervise classroom and residential personnel in carrying out specific programs for individual students.
- Provide written documentation as determined by licensing agencies and the PT.
- Assist students by carrying over other therapeutic strategies (e.g., communication device, sensory or behavioral strategies).
- Keep abreast of new information, ideas and techniques in pediatric physical therapy and practice in educational environments.
- Other duties as assigned by the VP of Children’s Services, supervising PT, and building administrators, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
Position Type: Full-time 40 hours M-F; Generally 8:30-5:00pm but it can be flexible

Required:
- Must have a valid Driver's License.
- Associates of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association.
- Current license as a Physical Therapist Assistant issued by the Massachusetts Board of Allied Health Professionals.
- Ability to pass an acceptable Criminal Records Check (CORI).
