Description: Head Athletic Trainer
Are you ready to join a collegial athletic training team that operates out of a state of the art sports medicine facility? Do you enjoy working with college student-athletes? As the Head Athletic Trainer, you are responsible for all aspects of the UAA Athletic training program, including writing policies and procedures for individuals, facilities, treatment, and activity areas by referring to established safety and legal guidelines, NATA Role Delineation Study, and best practices. Manage, implement, and practice the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainer five domains: therapeutic intervention, assessment, evaluation and diagnosis; risk reduction, wellness and health literacy; healthcare administration and professional responsibility; and critical incident management. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate athletic training staff including associate athletic trainer(s), assistant athletic trainer(s), student assistant(s), intern(s), and volunteer assistant(s).
To thrive in this position, an individual working as a Head Athletic Trainer at UAA needs to enjoy the intercollegiate athletics environment; have a passion to serve student-athletes for their health, safety, and wellness. It is also important to understand the part they play in guiding the student-athletes in health, academics, and competition. This balance takes strong convictions and the ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and staff. In addition, this individual needs to possess the ability to establish a personal work-life rhythm that provides healthy boundaries between work and personal life.
To be successful in this role, an individual will need interpersonal skills that include diplomacy and a communication style that displays well-developed emotional intelligence to work with colleagues professionally. The individual needs to be able to teach, counsel, problem solve, and collaborate with department stakeholders. In addition, must have the ability to resolve conflicts, manage & supervise staff and budget. Record keeping and accounting skills are integral to this position.
The individual will need expert knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive patient care in the five domains of clinical practice: therapeutic intervention, assessment, evaluation and diagnosis; risk reduction, wellness and health literacy; healthcare administration and professional responsibility; and critical incident management.
The individual must be able to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. They must be able to travel on a regular basis during the competitive season.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree with an academic major (or graduate equivalent major program) that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Five years experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer at the collegiate level, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Role Delineation Study and NATA best practices.
BOC Certified (Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers).
State of Alaska Athletic Training Licensure or must obtain completion ASAP and within 30 days of the job start date.
GNAC and NCAA required learning modules completed within 30 days of the job start date.
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
UA Safe Title IX certification or certification completion within 30 days of the job start date.
Applicant must possess an unrestricted Alaska driver's license (and CDL with endorsements as required) or be able to obtain an unrestricted Alaska driver's license within 60 days of accepting the job. In addition, the applicant must meet UAA's safe driving criteria.
