Job Summary
Performs Advanced Reproductive Biology (ART) laboratory procedures. Documents clinical activities and performs quality control procedures.
Essential Functions
- Performs all advanced reproductive technologies (ART) laboratory procedures including IVF, GIFT, semen preparation, assisted hatching, intracytoplasmic injection (ICSI), gamete and embryo cryopreservation.
- Performs micromanipulation.
- Completes vitrification and embryo biopsies as required by department.
- Performs all Andrology Laboratory tests and procedures.
- Prepares for and performs ICSI procedures.
- Documents clinical activities in the laboratory. Maintains and analyzes patient results and prepares reports.
- Performs laboratory quality control bioassays and quality control activities.
- Inventories and maintains, and prepares reagents and supplies.
- Assists in the establishment of new laboratory procedures.
- Assists with teaching medical technology students, medical students, residents and interns.
Physical Requirements
Carrying and lifting items less than 20 pounds. Exposure to blood and semen borne pathogens. Teammates must agree not to smoke or have the odor of smoke on their person during scheduled work hours and rotational call, since toxic resins from cigarette smoke can remain on a person's skin and clothing and potentially have negative effects on embryo cultures. Each teammate has the responsibility to follow all appropriate safety regulations.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years experience, or Master's degree in Embryology, Andrology or Reproductive Physiology and 3 years of experience, or PhD Degree in Physiology or related field. Previous tissue embryo culture experience preferred. Vitrification and embryo biopsy experience preferred.
