Overview
Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. The facility features 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms, and four intensive care unit rooms designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient, and centered on the patient experience.
Medicine - 1 West manages patients with a full range of clinical issues including heart failure, pneumonia, GI conditions, infectious diseases, asthma, and many others. Due to patient acuity, we provide advanced training to maintain nurses at the highest level of functioning. The unit is led by a clinical manager and lead charge nurse, and collaborates with a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, and pharmacist to provide quality patient care.
Role Purpose
Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
Responsibilities
- Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
- Educates patients and their families on managing their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
- Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate patients' physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs.
- Develops and implements individual plans of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Evaluates patients' responses and modifies plans of care accordingly throughout their stay.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate's in Nursing

Licenses & Certifications: RN
Preferred Requirements
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Experience: Less than 2 years
