LPN: Nurse Supervisor

The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the nursing service rendered throughout the Home during a specified tour of duty. The Nursing Supervisor assumes administrative responsibility as needed to handle emergencies which may arise on the designated tour of duty. The Nursing Supervisor cooperates with Nursing Service Administration in formulating Nursing Policies and Procedures and in evaluating the effectiveness of the nursing program.
Requirements for a Glenmere LPN Supervisor:
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing.
- Bachelor's degree and/or courses in supervision desirable.
- Minimum five years progressive nursing experience.
- Ability to meet the public and participate in professional programs.
- Current NYS Registration and Licensure.
Responsibilities for a Glenmere LPN Supervisor:
- Assesses the quality of care being rendered throughout the Home; makes staffing adjustments necessary to provide quality patient care in all areas of the Home.
- Provides general supervision of the nursing staff and acts as a resource person to all levels of nursing personnel.
- Provides orientation of emergency procedures and nursing procedures for agency personnel and for new staff when necessary.
- Makes independent decisions in regard to patient care within the perimeters of established policies and procedures.
- Evaluates emergencies and initiates appropriate actions in emergency situations.
- Provides continuity of care by interpreting the departmental philosophy of care and goals of nursing service to the nursing staff on the designated tour of duty.
- Interprets administrative and departmental policies and procedures to staff and assures compliance with established policies by staff.
- Evaluates and/or participates in the evaluation process for the nursing staff on the assigned tour of duty.
- Assists Nurse Managers and Charge Nurses to handle personnel grievances; maintains adequate personnel anecdotal notes to document personnel problems and/or achievements.
- Participates in staff education program of the Home; may conduct staff education programs for the staff on assigned tour of duty.
- Participates in research or quality assurance programs of the Home.
- Participates in the formulation of policies and procedures of the Nursing Department.
- Participates in Inservice Education Fire and Safety Programs. May attend meetings and workshops to improve job skills and/or working relationships.
