The Senior Sonographer II-Fetal Therapy, under the general supervision of the Chief Imaging Technologist and with the assistance of a physician, performs a more extensive range of diagnostic ultrasound and intervention procedures. This role assists in the training and supervising of ultrasound Sonographers, participates in clinical research studies, and orients and educates medical staff in the theory and applications of sonographic technology.
Responsibilities:
- Perform an extensive range of high-risk OB diagnostic ultrasound scans and interventional procedures.
- Generate patient reports and maintain sonographic equipment.
- Maintain the clinical environment and train other sonographers.
- Record maintenance logs for equipment and document patient information accurately.
- Ensure patient privacy, safety, and comfort.
- Assume Chief OB Sonographer responsibility when necessary.
Education/Certifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of an approved curriculum in diagnostic ultrasound.
- Current and active registered diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS) in obstetrics and fetal echocardiography. Certified in first trimester screening with either the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) or the Nuchal Translucency Quality Review (NTQR).
Work Experience:
At least four (4) years of clinical experience in diagnostic obstetrical ultrasound.
Shift: Full Time (40 hours), Day Shift; 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology as related to obstetrical ultrasound.
- Thorough knowledge of OB/GYN ultrasound protocols.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of first trimester screening, three- and four-dimensional imaging, obstetric Doppler studies, and fetal echocardiography.
- Knowledge of fetal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that use ultrasound guidance.
- Exhibit efficiency and initiative in data gathering, organization, storage, extraction, and retrieval.
Skills:
- Ability to provide ultrasound guidance for basic and advanced invasive procedures and demonstrate proficiency in three- and four-dimensional imaging, obstetrical Doppler studies, and fetal echocardiography.
- Ability to use all necessary equipment to obtain and document a complete examination.
- Ability to perform sonography and measurements required for a diagnostic sonography examination.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to interact with interpreting physicians, medical staff, patients, visitors, and other employees.
