Position Overview & Responsibilities:
This position will be responsible for working with the Production Operations Team to develop strategies and process-oriented approaches to improve the health and performance of our swine herd. This position offers the opportunity to develop expertise in all phases of swine production.
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Implement treatment strategies
- Provide timely diagnostic service and support including the coordination of field sample collections and analysis and communication of diagnostic results
- Provide summaries and recommendations to Production Operations Team
- Respond immediately to health challenges as they arise
- Troubleshoot specific on-farm health and production problems
- Deliver appropriate technical training of the service and farm staff
- Support all initiatives and practices related to bio-security and Standard Operating Procedures within the production operation system
- Support the implantation of Christensen Farms' On-Farm Pork Quality Assurance program
- Conduct all necessary regulatory blood testing and/or animal health checks
- Ensure regulatory compliance of animal movements and product use
Education, Training, and Experience Requirements:
Minimum formal education required: DVM
Minimum number of years of prior job experience required: Entry level, 0-1 year
- Good understanding of diseases and laboratory analyses
- Proven excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented atmosphere
- Ability to manage time and priorities in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively build strong working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts
- Proven ability to use initiative and think independently
- Demonstrated commitment to the swine industry and well-being of livestock
- Ability and willingness to travel
Specialized or Motorized Equipment and/or Tools:
This position will require operating a company vehicle. Any employment offer extended for this position will be contingent upon the review of the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). The MVR will be reviewed to determine insurability based on CFF's insurance carrier and company policy.
