The Clinical Laboratory Intern is an exciting opportunity for a candidate looking to kick start their career in a clinical laboratory. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented, eager to work and learn in a fast-paced environment, and has a strong sense of ownership and accountability. The Clinical Laboratory Intern will gain knowledge of and understand the theory of laboratory procedures as well as provide supporting services in the laboratory. Performs general laboratory procedures in the clinical laboratory under supervision. Duties include but are not limited to: specimen processing, equipment maintenance, reagent preparation, and performing and documenting quality assurance/control. This position reports to the Clinical Laboratory Supervisor.

Shifts Available:
- 1st Shift – Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm
- 2nd Shift – Tuesday – Friday, 11:00am – 9:30pm
- 3rd Shift – Tuesday – Friday, 8:00pm – 6:30am
Training: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm for the first 2 weeks.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Completes training to perform selected waived and/or qualitative, semiquantitative or quantitative procedures in clinical laboratory under direct supervision.
- Performs assigned tasks in Specimen Processing and other departments as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for own professional development.
- Observes principles of data security and patient confidentiality.
- Maintains ethical standards in the performance of testing and in interactions with patients, co-workers, and other health care professionals.
- Participates in continuing education and staff meetings as needed.
- Demonstrates adaptability by embracing changes in the laboratory with a positive attitude.
- May assist in the development of objectives, learning activities, and evaluation mechanisms.
- Complies with safety and hazard regulations as outlined in the Clinical Laboratory safety Policies.
- Maintains a clean and safe laboratory environment.
- Develops proficiency with laboratory information system.
- Coordinates general workflow in assigned area.
- Remains informed of procedure updates and changes.
- Contributes to a cohesive and collaborative team environment.
- Remains flexible to work a variable schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 25% of a typical working day.
- Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
- Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
- Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 75% of a typical working day.
- Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology or in chemical/biological sciences or related field.
- Pursuing a biological/chemical sciences degree program full or part-time.
- Basic understanding of the appropriate specimen collection, handling, and transport procedures.
- One-year relevant experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting.
Salary Range: $33,000.00 - $53,000.00
The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis.
