Physician-Ophthalmology/Retina Staten Island
We are seeking a physician trained in ophthalmology with subspecialty training in medical retina to join us in pursuit of high-quality patient care to provide Ophthalmology services including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health maintenance.
The Ideal Candidate:
- One to three years of ophthalmology clinical experience in an outpatient setting.
- Ability to treat and diagnose a wide variety of vitro-retinal conditions and improve patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate competency in diagnosis and treatment to assure high standards of patient care and safety are maintained.
- Patient-centered approach toward a positive patient experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Interest in population health management and value-based care.
Responsibilities:
- Review patient medical history, reports and examination results.
- Perform retinal examination, and order/interpret tests (OCT, photos, fluorescein angiograms, and other tests as appropriate).
- Evaluate, diagnose, and provide appropriate treatment and patient care for a wide variety of vitro-retinal conditions.
- Treat retinal diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy, vascular occlusions, and macular degeneration.
- Perform office-based procedures, including:
- Intravitreal injections.
- Focal and pan-retinal photocoagulation.
- Laser of retinal tears.
- Prescribe medications and formulate ongoing treatment and disease management plans.
- Recommend suitable management for the patient, including but not limited to, preventive health recommendations and habits.
- Collaborate with primary care providers and internal and external optometrists and ophthalmologists, including internal virtual consults.
- Provide relationship-centered care, taking into account the patient’s psychosocial and physical needs.
- Maintain complete and accurate medical records.
- Communicate effectively with the clinical team to ensure total delivery of quality care.
- Participate in medical staff educational programs and meetings.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or foreign equivalent.
- Completion of three year post graduate medical training from a U.S. accredited residency program in ophthalmology.
- Completion of a medical or medical-surgical retina fellowship, preferably one registered with AUPO-FCC.
- Seeking both experienced – 2 years or above, and newly trained providers.
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Ophthalmology.
- Must possess current, unrestricted New York State license or be eligible for licensure.
- Must possess active Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration or be eligible for registration.
- Must possess active Medicare/Medicaid Enrollment or be eligible to enroll.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) strongly preferred.
- Must possess strong communication skills both oral and written.
- Comfortable with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and Microsoft Office.

Union roles covered by a collective bargaining agreement will compensate in accordance with the union contract.
