Ware Malcomb has an exciting opportunity for a Lab Planner to join our team in Houston, Texas!
As a Lab Planner at Ware Malcomb, you will support in the delivery of innovative laboratory projects to diverse clients. You will lead project coordination with consultants and internal teams, prepare program documents and provide planning support on multi-functional laboratory facilities. You’ll use your technical expertise and knowledge of building codes to design and document best-of-class laboratory and clean room facilities while advancing your architectural career.
Lab Planner Responsibilities:
- Meet with user groups to determine technical requirements of proposed laboratory spaces.
- Prepare written program documents as required for sign-off by user groups and owners.
- Develop alternative design proposals based on user requirements.
- Responsible for coordinating project team members or key areas of project development as assigned to design and document best-of-class laboratory facilities.
- Conduct and document required code research for laboratory portions of projects in coordination with Project Manager and Science and Technology Director.
- In conjunction with Project Manager, interface as required with other disciplines or outside consultants.
- Perform submittal reviews and RFI responses during bidding and construction administration, on Laboratory related scope, as directed by and in conjunction with Project Manager.
- Work with other staff and orgs across Ware Malcomb’s offices to help coordinate efforts in the development of laboratory facilities and market diversification.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Science and Technology Director.
Lab Planner Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related field; licensed or license track candidates preferred.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and utility requirements.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
- Possess the ability to facilitate small group meetings with lab users.
- Proficiency in MS Office software and Autodesk AutoCAD. Knowledge of Autodesk Revit or other 2D and 3D software a plus.
- Candidate should be detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible.
- Ability to work well with others under deadline situations.
- Active participation in professional organizations a plus.
Lab Planner Physical Requirements:
- Capable of traveling to and from project sites for attending client, project, and construction meetings.
- Ability to access existing and new project sites for observation, investigation, and evaluation purposes.
- Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes.
- Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
