A Brief Overview:
The HLDS Support Specialist supports and manages the business and operational needs of identified areas with High Level Disinfection / Sterilization (HLDS). This role provides support in the development of reports that provide a trend analysis in the areas of budgets, statistics, capital requests, patient satisfaction surveys, and strategic plans. The position works with SPD Leadership to develop, interact, and apply department, division, and corporate policies, manage processes associated with statistical action plans, and outcomes of strategic business plans. Responsibilities include financial reconciliation and variance analysis as well as proformas required for strategic plans. The position reports directly to the Manager, HLDS Operations and works collaboratively with the SPD and Perioperative Services leadership team.
What you will do:
- Identify problems, recommend changes, and bring solutions to the attention of the Managers and Director of Sterile Processing regarding service, staffing, operations, and expansion.
- Coordinate and analyze various sources of information and data for decision-making purposes.
- Coordinate new equipment requests and audit the manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU).
- Develop and implement tactical plans for operations improvement and/or departmental growth.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Ensure availability and integrity of technological and biomedical devices.
- Utilize relevant software applications effectively.
- Monitor and analyze staffing and resource utilization.
- Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Nursing to develop/implement and follow up on action plans for fiscal management.
- Provide education and in-services as needed to ensure understanding of financial status for the leadership team.
- Analyze reported data and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Work collaboratively with key contacts in individual work units.
- Maintain departmental records, staffing, and personnel files.
- Perform regular audits in all areas that perform components of HLDS.
- Run reports on quality and compliance, assisting with HLDS Tracers.
- Coordinate logistics for support services related to HLDS (vendors, staff, etc.).
- Analyze interdepartmental and intradepartmental coordination.
- Facilitate all JCAHO and IDPH regulatory survey and response activities as directed.
- Ensure appropriateness and integrity, as well as preventive maintenance, of equipment devices and furniture to patient and family needs.
- Maintain environment of care compliance in all assigned areas.
- Serve on committees and task forces as assigned.
- Participate in staff meetings as necessary.
- Participate in manager and supervisor meetings as needed.
- Import data from operating systems into spreadsheets and manipulate data to provide analysis and recommendations for statistical trends.
- Perform periodic and scheduled report analysis for departmental activities and maintain the database on an ongoing basis.
- Prepare summaries of department compliance and monitor quality performance for HLDS.
- Oversee and reconcile the charge capture process.
What you will need:
- High School diploma required
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Two to five years related experience in healthcare sterile processing (or procedural area) environment.
- Experience in project management and staff education.
- Proficient in computer skills and experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other applications.
- Intimate knowledge of Sterile Processing policies and industry best practices (AORN, AAMI, IAHSCMM, etc.).
