Summary:
The Lead Technologist is responsible for performing, evaluating, and reporting technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Follows established procedures to ensure laboratory quality control and compliance with professional standards of practice. The Lead Technologist may perform administrative responsibilities of the laboratory section assuming additional technical or non-technical responsibilities as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Reports test results in a timely manner according to established laboratory protocols.
- May serve as lead of a laboratory section.
- Effectively manages resources such as productivity, supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Plans work and completes job responsibilities in an efficient and productive manner.
- Assists with coordinating services, prioritizing assignments and workflow, and promoting situational decision making/problem solving.
- Observes and instructs student technologists and new or current employees.
- Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
- May serve as Laboratory Safety and/or Quality Officer.
- Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.
- Provides input in the evaluation of team members' performance.
- Assists with ongoing compliance and regulatory requirements.
- May assess competency of team members.

- Associates: Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Required)
- Clinical Lab Supervisor License (SU LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
- Clinical Lab Technologist License (TN LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
Additional Job Information:
Complexity of Work: Intermediate knowledge of laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers. Intermediate knowledge of laboratory information systems. Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required Work Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Other Information: Must have state license as either a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Supervisor with qualification in the area of responsibility. Additional Education Info: Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory, Chemical, or Biological Science.
