The Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to assist with the development of a book manuscript in a part-time role (10 hours per week). This position is based in Boston though it can be fully remote. The role starts in October 2024, but there could be flexibility depending on the time for the hiring process. The time commitment is until February 2025.
The RA will need to function well in both independent and team settings. Excellent writing skills are a must.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and respond to manuscript drafts in a timely manner
- Research assistant: maintain bibliography and citations
- Sensitivity reader: screen manuscript for sources of bias and potential controversy
- Fact checker: follow manuscript citations to source materials to verify accuracy
- Organize, delegate, and supervise tasks for other research assistants
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, is a plus.
- Excellent self-directed organizational skills, time management, and close attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills, timeliness, flexibility, adaptability, and professionalism
- Excellent English language (spoken and written) communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team
- Ability to interpret information, formulate objectives, and take action to solve problems
- Ability to anticipate points of critique, controversy, and counterarguments around sensitive topics
- Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and in Google applications including Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar, Meet, and Slides
- Experience with autobiography, fact checking, and academic and journalistic writing
- Experience with queer, decolonial, and/or critical theory studies
- Experience with research, public health, global health, health policy, economics, and/or medicine
