Position Overview:
The Immunology and Inflammation Research and Early Development Therapeutic Area in Sanofi is building a world-class immunology team and is seeking highly motivated scientists to identify novel therapies in the fields of Immune Checkpoint Biology, Autoimmunity and Innate Immunity.
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the Checkpoint Immunology Cluster located in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate should have broad knowledge of immunology and demonstrated ability to integrate into projects and assignments as part of a dynamic team, contributing technical skills and functional knowledge. The position is a hands-on, laboratory-based role. The candidate is expected to analyze, record and report data, be able to develop and learn new techniques, and execute multiple projects simultaneously with appropriate supervision. The candidate will participate in new targets identification and validation to support current and future drug discovery programs. This exciting role will afford scientists the opportunity to be intimately involved in early discovery research and pre-clinical development. The position will require independent way of thinking, a results-driven attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in an agile team-based environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for independently performing experiments and studies in support of research project for drug discovery goals.
- Initiate, design, and execute experiments, and analyze, interpret, and present results.
- Support the development of disease relevant in vivo models.
- Support drug discovery projects working with scientific platform teams and proactively contribute to projects from discovery into early clinical development.
- Establish in vitro immunological assays to evaluate the biological functions of target molecules in human immune cells.
- Provide and promote support for operational excellence according to Sanofi values and ethics.
- Participate in monitoring and maintaining the lab and lab equipment as needed.
- Must be well-organized and detail-oriented, with meticulous record keeping and documentation according to Sanofi quality SOPs, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, ability to work productively in a team environment, ability to adapt to changing project priorities and timelines with willingness to learn new techniques.
- Must be able and willing to learn and incorporate new concepts and technologies.
- Prepare publications, research, and clinical/regulatory documentation in accordance with Sanofi quality standards.
- This position requires significant hands-on laboratory bench work and has no direct reports.
Basic Qualifications:
- PhD in immunology or related field OR Master’s degree in Biomedical Science plus 3 years laboratory experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting OR Bachelor’s Degree plus 6 years relevant research experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in human immunology and pre-clinical models.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute well thought out preclinical studies and assays to provide support and advance pipeline projects.
- Ability to advance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated potential to think independently, contribute and collaborate with cross functional project teams, and troubleshoot effectively.
- Experience isolating primary mouse and human immune cell subsets for utilization in immunological assays; advanced knowledge of multicolor flow cytometry and FACS-based immunophenotyping (both panel design and downstream data analysis).
- Proficiency across cellular, biochemical, and molecular techniques, which may include stable cell line generation and characterization, protein detection (MSD, Luminex), and gene profiling (RT-PCR, NanoString).
- Skilled in cell culture and experience with in vitro functional assays using human primary immune cells.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and team skills; Must be both highly collaborative and able to work independently.
