Coordinates the implementation, quality control, and completion of research studies while assisting the Principal Investigator in determining and accomplishing study objectives. Oversees research studies in an administrative and operational capacity while maintaining compliance with guidelines set by governing agencies.
This position will support the Utah AIDS Education and Training Center (UAETC) in implementing needs-based HIV training and capacity-building programs throughout Utah. The role involves recruiting and consulting with clinical providers to optimize integrating public health prevention practices and methods into healthcare settings. Responsibilities include outreach and training primary care providers to incorporate public health principles and prevention initiatives into their clinical practice. The overarching goal is to enhance providers’ prevention services, guide decision-making around appropriate biomedical interventions, and improve the quality of care for individuals at increased risk.
Responsibilities
0.50 FTE – Academic Detailing
Training Coordination/Practice Transformation Coach: 50% (20 hrs./wk.)
- Design and execute HIV training programs and capacity-building initiatives tailored to the needs of healthcare and behavioral health providers and agencies across Utah.
- Document training activities thoroughly, meeting evaluation and administrative requirements.
- Collect data and gather information essential for program improvement and stakeholder reporting.
- Foster and sustain collaborations with existing partners while proactively developing new partnerships and leveraging non-clinical expertise.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, utilizing coordination, communication, and program management skills.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to assess and implement quality improvement or assurance initiatives to enhance provider competence in HIV care.
- Lead the organization of learning groups for clinical champions, utilizing the National HIV and National PrEP Curriculums to boost the quality of care.
- Assist the Utah AETC Program Manager by facilitating AETC meetings and coordinating activities for AETC-funded trainings and events.
- Manage logistics by scheduling and overseeing in-person and virtual learning environments for Utah AETC-funded programs.
Academic Detailing: 50% (20 hrs./wk.)
- Assist the program manager in contracting community prescribing providers to offer peer-to-peer technical assistance and training.
- Plan and implement ongoing training needs assessments in Utah, including oversight for data collection and collation.
- Develop innovative outreach strategies to access healthcare offices, schedule appointments, engage with clinicians, and follow up on requests for additional information and support.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop and update educational materials and tools for patients and providers, incorporating the latest national and local epidemiological data to ensure relevance and accuracy.
- Research, identify, and recruit critical provider practices in targeted geographical areas.
- Conduct interviews to assess clinicians’ knowledge and motivations concerning STI/HIV screening and prevention.
- Capture and report visit data regularly to the program manager.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, utilizing coordination, communication, and program management skills.
- Gather and disseminate materials highlighting and substantiating the essential prevention messages, and in follow-up visits, provide positive reinforcement of improved practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a health sciences or related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) with two years professional research experience and completion of University RATS Clinical Certification within one year of hire required. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, FDA, HIPAA and IRB regulations; an understanding of research procedures; and the ability to function independently is preferred.
Departments may require IRB CITI Course or IATA DGR training within a specified timeframe.
Departments may prefer a nursing degree for this position, which requires the incumbent to have two years related experience and possess a nationally recognized research compliance certification.

- Two years of experience in managing budgets, grants, and programs, including working with federal or state agencies such as the CDC or HRSA.
