EPE is looking to recruit a Principal Engineer with a background in EMT studies and model benchmarking to join our growing Energy Resources team. In this role you will work closely with senior leadership to support our growth strategy and provide subject matter expertise both internally through coaching and developing staff as well as externally to our clients.
How you can make an impact:
- Perform EMT studies as well as model benchmarking studies in accordance with IEEE, ISO and Utility guidelines.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on EMT/RMS model benchmarking as it relates to generator interconnection studies.
- Serve as subject matter expert on modelling issues and model tuning specifically for EMT models.
- Passionate about solving difficult technical problems, providing innovative solutions and taking ownership of the solutions provided.
- Identify optimal strategy for project interconnection to the grid based on system impacts and grid capacity.
- Collaborate with other teams within EPE to provide strategic guidance on market trends and modelling changes across multiple ISO’s in North America.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory agencies.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies, market innovations, and best practices in the energy industry to enhance the organization's offerings and capabilities.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:
- 5 to 7 years of experience in the electric energy industry.
- Experience in generator modelling, EMT studies, transmission planning and interconnection studies is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of at least one EMT software package such as PSCAD, EMTP, etc.
- Knowledge of modelling guidelines in ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, and/or SERC is preferred.
- Experience in managing and mentoring technical teams.
- Active participation in industry taskforces and/or working groups.
- Experience with RMS tools and dynamic models (especially user-defined RMS models) would be considered a significant plus.
- Experience with developing EMT models for IBRs or HVDC projects would be considered a plus.
- Automation experience (Python, C#, SQL) would be considered a plus.
- Knowledge of real-time simulation tools (RTDS, OPAL-RT) would be considered a plus.

Location: This position is open to remote US/Canada.
Travel: Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less).
