Purpose
Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Efficiently manage the operations of the Pharmacy. Ensure accurate prescription dispensing and appropriate consultation. Supervise pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, grad interns, and clerks in compliance with federal and state legislation as well as store policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Supervises all pharmacy staff in accordance with Federal and State law while working in the pharmacy.
- Maintains a high level of customer service and phone etiquette.
- Takes all steps required to fill prescriptions in compliance with all laws, regulations, physician orders, and company policies.
- Communicates and cooperates in a professional manner with peers, direct reports, managers, physicians, and customers in all pharmacy-related areas.
- Prepares weekly work schedule for department to ensure adequate coverage and service level while adhering to weekly budgets.
- Trains pharmacy technicians and abides by state regulations regarding technician training and licensure.
- Completes performance reviews on an annual basis for each Staff Pharmacist and technician based on their location.
- Maintains inventory levels to company goals, rotates stock, and utilizes RX return process.
- Ensures timely implementation of company policies, procedures, and programs; and enforces professional and operational standards, including compliance with legal regulations.
- Works with compliance to ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation standards for Specialty Pharmacy.
- Reviews specialty pharmacy policies and procedures annually.
- Schedules and participates in on-call rotation for after-hours service per accreditation requirements.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to establish clinical programs.
- Triage specialty referrals within 24 hours and maintain constant vigilance until outcome determined.
- Performs temperature validation studies when appropriate by season.
- Works with licensing department to ensure all licensing needs are met and maintained.
- Establishes and maintains care plans to meet individual patient needs.
- Partners with Managed Care department to add specialty to existing and new pharmacy contracts.
- Partners with Procurement department to ensure specialty edit remains up to date and work to obtain limited distribution drugs.
- Assists the Director of Pharmacy Services to maintain relationships with vendors as needed.
- Collaborates with District Specialty Leads and PDMs to promote specialty across all banners.
- Establishes policy and procedures to meet the accreditation needs.
- Maintains a high degree of knowledge of competition, new developments, and trends in specialty pharmacy-related activities.
- Assists with the creation and implementation of marketing programs for specialty services.
- Works with SUPERVALU Corporate HR team to promote specialty pharmacy services.
- Manages and maintains prescription drug monitoring program requirements in states in which the pharmacy is licensed.

Job Requirements
Relevant Experience, Education, Certification, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have a college degree in Pharmacy (BS or PharmD).
- Must pass the NAPLEX.
- Must pass the State MPJE.
- Must hold a valid state license in all states required by business needs.
- Meets all requirements of and maintains status as a Certified Immunizer.
- Must complete continuing education hours as required by law.
- Must complete all required state, federal, and company training programs (i.e. HIPAA, CDR, I-pledge, etc.).
- Ability to do simple addition, subtraction, copying figures, counting, and recording.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be familiar with the handling and dispensing of high-risk medications.
- Possess the ability to understand and follow written, verbal, or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
- Visual requirements include clarity of vision at more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet with color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
- Must be able to work shifts varying in length and time, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be available for on-call rotation after-hours and weekends with the potential to return to the pharmacy for prescription processing and must return all calls within 30 minutes.
