General Description:
Performs a variety of technical tasks involved in operating ultrasound equipment and positioning patients in order to attain diagnostic quality images. Works effectively with patients and patients' families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of tasks involved in operating ultrasound equipment to attain diagnostic quality images. Adjusting equipment for proper imaging and positioning techniques.
- Performs a variety of Ultrasound exams as requested by qualified healthcare providers.
- Explains ultrasound procedures to patients and answers any questions patients may have prior to the exam that are within their scope of practice. Questions not in the Ultrasound technologist’s scope of practice will be referred to the radiologist or the patient’s ordering provider.
- Monitors accessory equipment: workstation, printer, probes, Trophon, etc.
- Maintains an appropriate equipment QA program under the direction of an approved medical physicist.
- Accurately processes images for optimal quality.
- Demonstrates acceptable image quality standards by critiquing positioning and technical factors.
- Understands use of the Athena/PACS/RIS/Nuance PowerShare systems.
- Is competent in using the Trophon and accurately logs the disinfection of the Ultrasound transvaginal probes in the appropriate log.
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree required from an accredited community college or college/university in the Applied Science of Radiography.
- Current RDMS license from ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or equivalent is preferred, or must be RDMS registry eligible.
- Current license in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Current State of Utah DOPL Radiologic Technologist license.
- Current American Heart Association BLS card (CPR and AED) and current PPD screening.
- Two years of experience is preferred but not required.
All Ultrasound technologists are required to maintain their qualifications by meeting the specific requirements on continuing education as well as maintaining all their licenses current.
As a Tribal Organization, the Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. (UNHS) treats patients with high risk and underlying chronic medical conditions. - Complete Hepatitis B vaccine series (3 doses), documented proof of titers indicating immunity, or a declination that may be signed upon arrival.
- Proof of up-to-date PPD skin testing, if previously negative (OR) Proof of positive PPD skin test with the most recent chest x-ray and treatment history.
- Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap).
- Varicella titers, history of varicella or varicella immunization series.
- Influenza vaccine for the current year.
- COVID-19 vaccine.
- Any other vaccinations as requested.
