Registered Nurse Device Clinic (Full-Time) Days-Detroit
Provides leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality compassionate patient care. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of patients and family. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to health care team. Participates in finding solutions for variances from patient goals and ensures implementation of solutions.
The Electrophysiology (EP) Device Clinic Nurse functions with a great deal of autonomy in the day-to-day operations of the Arrhythmia Center under the clinical supervision of a Cardiologist. The EP Device Clinic Nurse follows up on visits of pacemaker and Implantable Defibrillator patients. This includes device evaluation, PaceArt system data entry and reporting, charting documentation, billing data generation, and triaging information to the appropriate follow-up clinician. The EP Device Clinic Nurse will also assist with pacemaker clinic research.
Qualifications - External
- Performs pacemaker, ICD and loop recorder evaluations per protocol to assure normal device function and safe programmed settings.
- Makes appropriate changes in device programming when symptoms or monitor strips confirm a problem such as PMT, atrial or ventricular arrhythmias, capture or sensing abnormalities.
- Evaluates rate histograms and patient symptoms to tailor rate response settings. Evaluates device remote downloads for normal and abnormal function.
- Notifies appropriate clinician with new onset of atrial arrhythmias or ventricular arrhythmias.
- Follows up with patients who have abnormal results.
- Evaluates stored electrocardiograms to assure proper sensing and therapy provided by ICD.
- Utilizes resources such as other Cardiac Device colleagues, EP physicians or technical services to assist with assessment and interpretations of ECGs.
- Evaluates devices in the hospital and the emergency department per physician request, and documents findings in the patient chart.
- Shares findings with EP or cardiologist for further management.
- Enters implant data into the computer database, updating with pertinent information, such as complications or device alerts. Inspects implant site of devices and documents healing process.
- Utilizes wound care decision tree when applicable and notifies EP appropriately.
- Educates patients and family regarding device, home cardiac monitoring follow-up.
- Provides phone triage services for device patients with device related issues. Maintains expertise as new technology becomes available, including use of new programmers and programming of new devices.
- Coordinates scheduling of elective device replacements including pre-procedure report for EP personnel, pre-op office visit with Electrophysiologist or Advanced Practice Provider.
- Assists in research documentation and device follow-up.
- Attends ICD support group activities.
- Provides patient care to ensure that all EP Device Clinic services are of high quality.
- Ensures appropriate quality control functions are being provided on all equipment periodically.
- Completes accurate billing data and submits to the billing office.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
BSN preferred. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans. Ability to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services. Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and hospital personnel.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing.
