This position is responsible for providing quality nursing oversight for individuals receiving Medical Respite Services. The schedule for this position will be Monday - Friday during the hours of 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. This position is responsible for assisting with activities of daily living, completing any tasks related to medical orders including primary care and specialty appointments, being a liaison with local pharmacies, managing medication orders and administration, and resident education on all topics related to medical recovery and rehabilitation. Quality medical oversight includes, but is not limited to, reviewing medical evaluations and results, consulting with medical professionals, observing staff, reviewing medication administration, and performing related duties as assigned to ensure that quality outcomes are achieved.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete daily wellness checks with documentation for each consumer.
- Review results from laboratories, medical evaluations, and physician notes and records recommendations in consumer record book.
- Consult with physicians to provide accurate and complete information concerning current health and medical histories of consumers.
- Answer calls from staff if there is an incident.
- Review medication administration records on a scheduled basis.
- Provide in-service training to staff as appropriate.
- Participate in consumer interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Observe staff performing health care procedures and provide evaluation of their performance.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Provide 24-hour on-call coverage as needed.
PRN DUTIES:
- Notified of your shifts with a minimum of 24 hours' notice.
- We offer a 4-hour minimum shift duration.
KEY CONTACTS:
- Maintain relationships with medical providers, local pharmacies.
- Maintain relationships with Dietician.
- Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have graduated from an accredited Nursing program and be licensed by the State of Louisiana as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Required to have at least two years of nursing experience.
Physical Requirement:
Physical requirements include walking, sitting, standing, bending, squatting, and lifting in the performance of general office duties and general nursing practices. Required to assist in moving or transferring consumers. Must be able to drive a vehicle to multiple group homes per day, or as required, in varying weather conditions and temperatures. Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
Special Requirements:
This position requires the incumbent to be licensed as a Practical Nurse and to be in good standing with the Nursing Board of Louisiana. Must have a valid Louisiana Driver's license and be insurable under the VOASELA, Inc.'s liability insurance. Must be able to pass a criminal history investigation and be able to obtain Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid certifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical requirements include sitting, standing, climbing, pushing, bending, squatting, lifting, and pulling. May be required to assist in moving consumers weighing up to 200 lbs. Other physical requirements include:
- The ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to transport oneself, consumers, and program supplies as necessary.
- Move and lift light objects up to 30 pounds such as mail, supplies, files, and equipment.
- Operating office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements.
