Summary of PositionThe Associate Director for Medical Education is a leadership role that is responsible for supporting medical education for Mass General Brigham Home Hospital services, programs, and policies and serving as a liaison between clinical and operational leadership for Home Hospital at Mass General Brigham across all facilities (Academic Medical Centers and community hospitals). This role reports to the Director of Home Hospitalist Unit, Healthcare at Home.
Administrative Responsibilities- Lead curriculum design and scholarly work that will contribute to MGB Home Hospital’s role as a leader in the field
- Support onboarding training for physicians, advance practice providers and nurses independent of their prior clinical exposure or experience with dedicated curricula and educational content offered on a rolling basis
- Run a dedicated Home Hospital residency elective wherein medical residents will participate in patient selection, rounding and admitting to the MGB Home Hospital and be an active member of the Home Hospital interprofessional team
- Coordinate and run ad hoc half or full-day residency experiences for medical residents as part of their ambulatory curricula for those interested in Home Hospital but unable to dedicate a full elective
- Participate in ongoing residency curricula to introduce and familiarize the medical residents with Home Hospital through conferences and other didactic venues
- Lead the development of Core Competencies for physicians in Home Hospital.
- Design and run an undergraduate elective for medical students who have completed their core clerkships which will involve patient selection, rounding and admitting to MGB Home Hospital.
- Lead a didactic series on a rolling basis to all new-hire APPs and to those interested in participating. High-yield content will center on the diagnosis and management of frequently encountered conditions an delivered in "clinical bootcamp" didactic sessions.
- Coordinate longitudinal case discussions for the MGB Home Hospital which illustrate diagnostic or therapeutic challenges, safety issues or novel care decisions will be featured.
- Curate periodic clinical update didactics given by experts in relevant fields to ensure optimal and updated medical care for patients hospitalized at home
- Coach and provide primers on education for faculty interested in teaching learners within the MGB Home Hospital
- Conduct yearly didactic refreshers to divisions and/or departments with potential for heavy Home Hospital utilization
- Co-Lead the Home Hospital education committee
Clinical Responsibilities- Commitment to a minimum equivalent of 0.25 FTE clinical hours as a Home Hospitalist with the associated duties and compensation
Skills/Competencies- Strong managerial presence and ability to provide direct feedback to leadership
- Multi-disciplinary team management experience required
- Passion for leveraging the dynamic, shifting landscape of healthcare to drive effective care initiatives that engage key internal and external stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work with all levels of staff (executive, front-line, trustees and physicians) and function effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Results-oriented and exhibits a strong attention to detail
Requirements- Board-certified physician in internal medicine
- 3+ years of graduate and undergraduate teaching experience
- Harvard Medical School appointment required
Working ConditionsA hybrid work model, with at least one day on-site; professional office setting located in Assembly Row, Somerville, MA. May require travel locally to other Mass General Brigham sites.
