Introduction
We at the Potomac Center/SETT facility provide quality person-centered supports to adults with intellectual disabilities at our campus in Hagerstown, Maryland. Our aim is to partner with the community to help our residents achieve their goals. The Potomac Center is a 62-bed licensed Intermediate Care Facility (ICF). This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions to empower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return to community living.
The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT) Program, located within the Potomac Center campus, is a 32-bed licensed Forensic Residential Center that provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities and court involvement within a safe and secure environment. The program provides assistance as they resolve their court involvement and work toward transitioning to a less secured environment. The SETT utilizes active treatment as well as providing evaluation, assessment and competency attainment education.

Main Purpose of Job
As a LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE II, this position shall be charged with functional duties and responsibilities commensurate with full performance level. This position shall be personally responsible for providing and directing the provision of services to and supervision of Intellectual Disabled Individuals entrusted to cottage’s care. When lead medical person on cottage, this position must at all times be alert to Individuals' health status and ensure that medical regimens are at all times followed in accordance with sound nursing judgment and applicable Center Policies and Procedures. This position shall likewise monitor associates' compliance with cottage's operating procedures and assess associates' performance in terms of quality and quantity of services; adherence to applicable guidelines; conformance with instructions; demeanor and rapport with Individuals; and following Program and data collection requirements including notes and reports. This position shall bring any problems or concerns about same to Cottage Manager and/or RN's timely attention. This position under general auspices of RNs shall strictly adhere to pertinent medical protocols including RN/Physician alerts or reports; medications; assessments; evidence of injury or symptoms of illness; and written entries in appropriate documents in timely and accurate manner. And, finally, discharging all duties and conducting oneself at all times per all relevant Regulations, Standards, Policies and Procedures including: Departments of Budget and Management and Mental Health and Hygiene; Title 17 CODE OF MARYLAND REGULATIONS; MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING; Office of Health Quality; ICF-MR; Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services; and Potomac Center.
Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Practical Nurses.
Experience: One year of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate will possess:
- Experience performing nursing procedures such as administering prescribed medications, monitoring patients' vital signs, obtaining specimens for laboratory testing and assisting in physical examinations.
- Experience working with intellectually disabled and/or forensic populations.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Practical Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing.
- Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
- Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Employees in this classification are subject to call-in, and therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number where they can be reached.
- Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
