Laboratory Supervisor, Screening
The Opportunity
Our laboratory in Richmond, VA currently has an opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Supervisor to lead our dynamic screening team and certifiers. As a Lab Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to lead in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where quality and customer service really matter.
The usual work schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday, mid shift.
What You’ll Work On
- On a daily basis, you will collaborate with other leaders to review performance and establish production goal targets and you’ll coordinate duties of personnel, including issuing assignments and making work schedules
- Conduct daily tier meetings with staff
- Data review, daily logs, including maintenance and temperature logs, lot verification logs and related recordkeeping
- Responsible for meeting daily turn around goals
- Perform competency evaluations of screening personnel
- Train new and current employees and provide counsel when SOPS or corporate policies are violated
- Facilitate resolution to system malfunctions
- Provide input and recommendations to improve daily operations within the laboratory
- Manage operation and maintenance of screening instruments and troubleshoot instrument issues
- Validations of new calibrators and controls
- Reporting all quality issues and incidents to lab management
- Responsible for coordinating staff to complete all carry over specimens including weekends when needed
- Responsible for managing overtime UPPH and GMI
- Place orders for new supplies and reagents and schedule instrument service
- You will also be responsible for storage of supplies and disposal of expired reagents, ensure compliance of quality standards and SOP in the screening department, assures lab department meets safety requirements and adhere to security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor information
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in a life science or equivalent related field
- Experience managing/leading others in a laboratory setting
- 3+ years of experience in screening instrument operation
- 4++ years laboratory experience and training in initial testing with chemistry analyzers utilizing HEIA, CEDIA and ELISA methodologies
- Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures and laboratory instrumentation
- Ability to understand certification requirements for SAMHSA, CAP-FDT, and other regulatory bodies
- Advanced ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems and basic understanding of drugs that are tested
- Open to working weekends as needed
