We are seeking candidates to join the Clinical Nutrition team at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center within UMMC. Shock Trauma includes 100 designated trauma beds, including ICU, IMC, telemetry, and floor care levels. Registered dietitians practicing at Shock Trauma are well positioned to advocate for patient care, train the next generation of trauma and nutrition providers, and advance their professional practice. Job Description
- Provide medical nutrition therapy to adults admitted to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Shock Trauma is recognized internationally as the leader in trauma care, and nutrition is a critical component of the care provided to our patients.
- Actively participate in interdisciplinary teaching rounds in the neuro-trauma and multi-trauma intensive care units. Registered dietitians in Shock Trauma rotate services quarterly to ensure ongoing competence across the range of populations we serve.
- Engage in research, evidence-based practice, and quality assurance initiatives. Shock Trauma RDs have successfully led and published clinical research and seek to remain on the cutting edge of advancements in trauma nutrition practices.
- Discuss the plan of nutrition care with patients and/or families; electronically document nutrition plans of care and education provided.
- Actively contribute to teamwork (cooperate with peers, flexible with cross coverage) and achievement of department goals; attend staff meetings.
- Provide education, training, and expertise as a professional resource to members of the healthcare team, as well as dietetic interns, to advance their development in the field.
- Attend and/or participate in various in-service, continuing education credits, and external training workshops, conferences, and other relevant educational programs to maintain state licensure. Utilize and integrate evidence into practice.
- This position includes a weekend and on-call rotation and averages 4-5 weekends annually.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or related field required.
- Registration by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) required. Current licensure in the state of Maryland as a Dietitian/Nutritionist required.
- Four (4) years clinical experience is preferred as a Registered Dietitian at a hospital facility, including completion of UMMC initial review required.
- Prior completion of a Specialty Fellowship Program or Specialty Certification in Nutrition Support is preferred.
- Current on all mandatory classes/training. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology as they relate to nutrition is required to make clinical decisions regarding a patient’s nutritional care plan.
