Description
The Mammography Technologist, under direct supervision, performs specialized examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in women patients for our client facilities. The Mammography Technologist may perform screening exams or diagnostic exams.
Responsibilities:
- Practice safe procedures and adhere to radiation safety measures under the supervision of the Radiology supervisor or the Radiologist.
- Complete patient education regarding the exam.
- Promote privacy and comfort for the patient.
- Perform diagnostic or screening mammogram as ordered.
- Prepare for and assist the Radiologist in the completion of intricate mammography examinations, including breast biopsies.
- Produce high-quality films for the radiologist to evaluate.
- Complete appropriate documentation.
- Perform quality control functions related to mammography.
- Assist in the compilation and maintenance of statistical data.
- Follow infection control and safety guidelines.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy in mammography positioning and exposure technique.
- Serve as the primary liaison between patients, Radiologists, and other members of the support team.
- Use professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing duties.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Hire and train all mammo and Dexa technologists.
- Coordinate daily schedule at the Woman’s Center.
- Participate in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence.
- Work as a team member.
- Operate Mammography equipment skillfully.
- Pay attention to detail.
- Have a basic understanding of computer technology.
- Perform all duties using proper body mechanics.
- Frequently move/lift between 50-100 pounds, depending on assignment requirements.
- Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling, and reaching to prepare equipment, materials, or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment.
- Exhibit manual dexterity and fine motor coordination.
- Work in a stressful environment.
- Follow directions/instructions from the supervisor.
- Maintain consistent attendance to assure that the client facilities’ needs and patient needs are met.
- Comply with all client facilities’ policies, procedures, and practices.
Requirements:
Education: Completion of a two-year approved School of Radiologic Technology.
Experience: One year full-time experience as a Mammography Technologist.
Licensure: Valid state radiology registration as required by state law.
Certification: Registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
Current CPR/BLS Certification.
Continuing Education: MQSA/FDA- 15 CEU’s every 3 years, 200 documented case numbers every 2 years.
