The Nuclear Medicine Division in the Department of Radiology is seeking applications for one full-time Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join the growing Nuclear Medicine Division at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
Our practice site is at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, the main University Hospital of Penn State University College of Medicine, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. This rapidly growing service provides nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapy services and offers clinical trial opportunities for Penn State Health patients in an outpatient setting. The clinical PET/CT and general nuclear medicine imaging services have experienced steady growth for the past 5 years. We collaborate with the Penn State Health Cancer Institute to provide cutting-edge imaging-guided radiopharmaceutical therapies, such as Lu-177 dotatate (Lutather) and the Lu-177 PSMA-617 (Pluvicto), which are growing in demand. Consultation services for patients and providers are also expanding significantly, leading to highly collaborative, multidisciplinary participation of nuclear medicine in the oncology practice at Penn State Health. The Penn State Health Nuclear Medicine Division also runs or supports diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceutical clinical trials. Our facility is empowered by excellent PET/CT and SPECT/CT cameras, which provide ample clinical and translational research opportunities. As a result of this robust and growing therapy practice, Penn State Health seeks to add an APP.
Responsibilities
Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Perform initial consultations as shared visits with nuclear medicine faculty and independent on-treatment visits.
- Provide patient education on radiopharmaceutical therapies.
- Evaluate and manage on-treatment and post-treatment side effects from radiopharmaceutical therapies, focusing on managing acute side effects.
- Perform care coordination tasks in collaboration with the Nuclear Medicine technologists, nursing staff, and Oncology teams.
- Assist with medical decision-making for diagnostic nuclear medicine patients, including handling reactions and assessing adequacy of patient preparation for nuclear medicine and PET scans.
- Draft preliminary reports under our attending physicians? supervision.
- Participate in patient review conferences, tumor boards, and other clinical team meetings.
- Participate in and support investigational diagnostic and therapy radiopharmaceutical research.
- Share call responsibilities with the attending physicians for Penn State Health therapy patients.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of Pennsylvania required.
- National Certification in Pennsylvania or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in Pennsylvania required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Relevant experience preferred.
Other Qualifications
- 1 year of PA-C experience in Medical Oncology preferred
- A strong team player with a can-do attitude is a must. The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team is essential.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- EMR experience required; prefer experience with CPOE
- DEA license required.
