Psychiatric Technician - Behavioral Health - Full Time, Nights (7PM - 7AM, Alternating Days)

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Psychiatric Technician - Behavioral Health - Full Time, Nights (7PM - 7AM, Alternating Days) - NSG-I. In this role, the successful candidate works in collaboration with Behavioral Health staff to provide observation, care, and treatment to an adult psychiatric population in an emergency setting. Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provision of Patient Care:
- Identify unusual behavior of patients and communicate observations to the RN in charge.
- Document patient behavior and recognize changes in condition during 1:1 observation.
- Apply restraints appropriately and demonstrate knowledge of hospital policies regarding restraint and seclusion.
- Recognize verbal/non-verbal communication problems of patients and their families.
- Ensure patient confidentiality according to NYS and Federal guidelines.
- Make regular rounds of assigned patients and report changes to the nurse.
- Provide information regarding patient behavior for treatment plans.
- Participate in maintaining a safe environment for patients.
- Set limits and restrictions under the direction of nursing staff.
- Protect patient privacy and rights.
- Evaluate the therapeutic environment and report non-therapeutic components.
- Complete errands as requested, such as transporting patients and retrieving supplies.
- Perform 1:1 observation as needed.
- Complete thorough contraband searches upon admission.
- Documentation Requirements:
- Document appropriately for 1:1 and close observation patients.
- Complete paperwork as assigned and prepare patient records for staff.
- Contribute to Department Functioning:
- Conduct contraband checks in the Emergency Department.
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living, including meal service and patient laundry.
- Provide 1:1 support as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify, you must have a High School diploma or comparable education. Ability to work effectively with Behavioral Health patients, knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques, First Aid Training, BLS Certification, and De-escalation Training are required. Must be able to occasionally lift/carry up to 25 lbs and push/pull up to 75 lbs.

The salary range for the role is $46,644.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
