JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Radiology Technician operates imaging equipment and performs diagnostic x-rays on patients as requested, in order to provide the radiologists and/or physicians with diagnostic information. Assists in preparing procedure rooms as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES
- Collaborate on patient medical issues with the physician to determine protocol and procedure.
- Complete Radiologic Imaging and procedures, obtaining optimal images for physician review according to policy and protocol.
- Obtain and record patient identification, medical history, or test results.
- Monitor patient condition continually and report/respond to changes in status as appropriate.
- Perform medical care as needed, such as administering oxygen, taking vital signs and giving emergency treatments.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Document duration of radiation, test equipment weekly, examine protective x-ray aprons for integrity and document the results of tests/examinations.
- Maintain, clean and report any issues with equipment.
- Administer appropriate high quality, patient-focused health care.
- Operate imaging equipment and other ancillary equipment properly and safely.
- Practice correct radiation protection, shielding and collimating, and proper exposure factors on each patient.
- Position patient in the correct position to obtain required radiographs.
- Complete exams in a timely and efficient manner and evaluate each film for acceptable technical quality.
- Strive to reduce retakes and conserve supplies.
- Ensure that the physician on duty is reviewing x-ray reports that were sent out for over-reads to a radiologist.
- Maintain proper filing of all x-rays, discs, and folders.
- Patient care functions may include triage/check-in assessment and discharge, CLIA waived point of care testing, phlebotomy, wound care, splinting application and other treatments ordered by the provider.
- Maintain all clinical documentation, including quality control and compliance logs required by company policy and applicable regulatory agencies.
- Accurately, efficiently, and completely document all clinical patient care data.
- Utilize all equipment, supplies, facilities, and resources of the Company in a prudent and efficient manner.
- Participate in department quality improvement activities, staff educational programs, attend departmental meetings, and demonstrate and maintain clinical competency in the delivery of patient care services in accordance with Company guidelines.
- Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
- License and certification as required by state.
- Valid ARRT Certification in Radiography.
- BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.
KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES
- Knowledge of routine to complex Radiologic procedures and protocols.
- Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
- Knowledge of database management.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare coding systems, and clinic functions.
- Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of computer applications, including information and billing systems, keyboard input, digital archiving, and retrieving of data including Microsoft Office.
- Skill in operation of Radiologic equipment as well as applicable ancillary equipment.
- Ability to work independently and multitask.
- Ability to provide documentation accurately and concisely.
- Demonstrates understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology, radiopharmacology, and medical terminology.
- Ability to assist patients for transfer from stretcher, wheelchair or in an emergency situation.
- Ability to provide compassionate care to patients and family.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Associate Degree in Radiography.
- Graduate of Accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Radiologic Technologist experience strongly preferred; new grads considered.
