DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 for the Department of Corrections, you will provide alcohol and other drug treatment services to the inmate population within both the outpatient and therapeutic community programs. You will also conduct initial assessment interviews, make preliminary recommendations for programming needs, provide individual and group therapy, and monitor or coordinate self-help groups.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours weekly.
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $54,226.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker;
- One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences;
- One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor";
- A master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work;
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania is required.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
