Supervisor is responsible to coordinate, evaluate and direct activities of staff engaged in providing clinical laboratory services within the assigned CAH laboratory. Accountable and responsible to ensure quality and quantity standards relating to the delivery of laboratory services are achieved while maintaining high levels of customer service. Responsible for the supervision of reporting staff to include interviewing, hiring, mentoring, coaching/counseling, performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
Essential Job Functions
- Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and department/service.
- Provides leadership for the staff within the laboratory at the assigned critical access hospital. Responsible for personnel management and performs the functions of interviewing, hiring, orientation/training, performance appraisals, coaching/counseling/mentoring and disciplinary action up to and including terminations as coordinated with the manager and Human Resources Department. Responsible for work schedules that provide adequate staffing to meet business needs.
- Responsible to supervise the staff and activities within the laboratory of the critical access hospital to accomplish the goals and objectives as defined for the laboratory services. Responsible for operational meetings with departments.
- Participates in both short and long term planning and annual budgeting process. Is fiscally responsible and maintains expenses within agreed upon budgetary constraints.
- Works in conjunction with CAH Leadership, Laboratory Medical Director and other laboratory leadership and leads to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and laboratory operating policies and procedures and ongoing regulatory readiness of staff.
- Responsible to oversee that laboratory equipment is maintained in a safe and accurate operating condition. Responsible for vendor notifications regarding FDA issues and ECI edits.
- Responsible for personnel management and performs the functions of interviewing, hiring, orientation/training, performance appraisals, coaching/counseling/mentoring and disciplinary action up to and including terminations as coordinated with the manager and Human Resources Department. Responsible for development of staff including goals and growth opportunities.
- Responsible for overall quality of laboratory and systems within, including status of equipment, inventory, resources and training.
Coordinates with the laboratory information systems department to maintain laboratory computer systems, interfaces, master files and new test set up to include coding and pricing.
- Responsible for overall productivity and resource allocation. Must assess labor resource and workload to provide appropriate service levels. Responsible for deployment of projects and associated labor and supply resources.
- May serve as the Laboratory Technical Supervisor for CLIA purposes in the absence of the Consulting Medical Technologist.
- May coordinate Point of Care program and skills validations within the CAH site.
- Responsible for personnel management and performs the functions of interviewing, hiring, orientation/training, performance appraisals, coaching/counseling/mentoring and disciplinary action up to and including terminations as coordinated with the manager and Human Resources Department. Establishes work schedules to ensure adequate staffing to meet business needs.
- May work with CAH leadership and main campus leadership within the same service line for support needs and/or matrix management on accreditation/regulatory requirements, coordination for capital equipment requests, competency assessments and/or educational needs, and/or preventive maintenance for equipment, etc.
- Ensures the CAH site equipment is maintained in a safe and accurate operating condition. Contacts appropriate Billings Clinic staff or vendors for repairs as needed. Performs minor service as directed by qualified staff.
- Supervises, evaluates and maintains records of quality control procedures of assigned sections or branch site.
- Ensures maintenance of adequate supplies for the performance of the section’s clinical tests by means of a timely inventory and preparation of supply orders and the transmission of these orders to vendors as necessary. Evaluates the quality and cost of supplies, procedures and equipment and makes recommendations to the regional branch site Leadership and/or Medical Director.
- Maintains clinical proficiency in all aspects of the CAH laboratory areas and performs regular shift coverage as a Medical Technologist.
- Participates in regular on-call and emergency department coverage rotations, estimated to be 1in 4 weekends and rotating coverage on observed holidays.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
4 Year / Bachelors Degree
Bachelor’s degree in a science field specific to the scope of practice, and compliant with ASCP requirements
Certified by the ASCP Board of Registry or its equivalent
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
Experience
Three years of supervisory/management experience, preferred
Certifications and Licenses
Current or eligible Montana state licensure as a MLS, MT or CLS
