The role you’ll contribute:
Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The registered nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and re-evaluating the needs, treatment and care of the age-appropriate patient within the OR suite. The nurse adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan, and to all the rules and regulations applicable to local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
- Implements the Surgical plan of care by:
- protecting the patient from injury caused by chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources and extraneous objects;
- performing accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items;
- performing interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level;
- managing the patient’s specimens in the appropriate manner;
- communicating the patient’s current status to the appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care;
- administering medications safely and correctly;
- performing interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels;
- performing interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period;
- performing interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection;
- assessing the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person;
- providing education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure;
- actively involving the patient or designated support person in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process;
- protecting the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy;
- Maintains liaison with Registration, Laboratory, Pre-op Holding, Volunteer Desk, Ambulatory Services, Endoscopy, PACU and Anesthesia Department for safe patient care.
- Prepares the patient for the procedure, able to assist the physician within the role of circulating nurse in the procedure room, knowledgeable of equipment and supplies for OR procedures.
- Clean procedure rooms, redress table and stock work area with supplies while checking for outdates and inform manager/charge nurse of supplies needed when par level decreases and report equipment issues promptly. Makes written changes to the preference cards as needed and submits them for electronic update.
- Actively participates in department Performance Improvement Plan, Staff Meetings, monthly assigned duties and orients new nurses to the unit.
- Participates in scheduling weekend add-on patients while adhering to the guidelines.
- OR Unit provides professional care for patients in the outpatient and inpatient setting beginning at the age of 16, young adult, middle age and geriatric adults. Consent for ages 16 and 17 must be provided by a parent or a court-appointed guardian unless the patient is an emancipated minor.
*Terms: 24-month Full-time Employment Contract Required for Relocation

- Must live 50 miles outside of campus address.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Minimum qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- Current registered nursing license with the Florida State Board of Examiners.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Excellent interpersonal skill set, demonstrating compassion and respect to patients and family undergoing stressful procedures and treatments.
- Works independently, self-motivated, takes direction from physician and management to complete assignments.
- Maintain safe knowledge of equipment, procedures, supplies, computer, IV pumps, NOVA Glucose monitor, I-STAT, Immediate use sterilization policy and procedures.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior acute care nursing
- Current CNOR certification
