SPECIAL SALARY INFORMATION:
Manpower Shortage RecruitmentNew appointments and current incumbents shall be compensated at Step 5 of the applicable salary range. This is in effect until June 30, 2025, or until it is determined that a shortage no longer exists, whichever is sooner.
Critical Shortage Recruitment Range - 20% Night ShiftIn addition, pursuant to County Code Section 6.10.050 and 6.10.060, a Critical Shortage Range of 20% has been approved for full-time Clinical Laboratory Scientist II assigned to the night shift.
WITHHOLD INFORMATIONApplicants who do not possess a Clinical Laboratory Scientist license issued by the State of California Department of Health Services at the time of filing may compete in this examination; however, the names of such candidates will be withheld from the certification for employment until the required license is presented. The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. Through academic affiliations with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Southern California (USC), and the Charles R. DEFINITION:Assists a supervising clinical laboratory scientist in the operation of a clinical laboratory unit by resolving technical problems and developing recommendations on new or alternative equipment, methods, or materials in addition to performing regular clinical laboratory scientist duties -OR- Assigns, trains, reviews, and participates in the work of a group of clinical laboratory scientists engaged in the performance of a variety of standardized clinical laboratory tests.
- Investigates problems of laboratory equipment malfunction or difficulties with reagents, media, or other materials or items of supply.
- Assists with supervision in the search of technical publications and other literature in the field to identify and recommend for management's consideration new equipment, methods, materials.
- Participates in controlled experiments to evaluate the feasibility or adaptability of the product or procedure into regular laboratory operations and develops appropriate recommendations.
- Verifies that journey level laboratory scientists have correctly calibrated test instruments, carried out prescribed quality control procedures, performed first-line maintenance on equipment, and properly completed necessary documentation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:One year of experience as a clinical laboratory scientist in an approved laboratory.*
Physical Class II – Light: Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
License:Clinical Laboratory Scientist's license issued by the State of California Department of Health Services**.
Special Requirement Information:*An approved laboratory is defined as a clinical laboratory that has a federal issued Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment Laboratory Certificate of Accreditation that authorizes the laboratory to accept human specimens for the purpose of performing laboratory examinations, and is accredited by the College of American Pathologist (CAP) or The Joint Commission.
**Applicants must attach a valid legible photocopy of their license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at the time of filing. Applicants who currently practice and/or reside in another state must have a valid and unrestricted license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
At the time of appointment, the successful candidate must have a license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist issued by the State of California Department of Health Services.
All required licenses and certifications must be active and unrestricted, or your application will not be accepted.Examination Content:This examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience based upon application information weighted at 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be added to the Eligible Register.Notification Letters and other correspondences will be sent electronically to the email address provided on the application.
