EMC/RF Applications Engineer & Testing Technician – Rocklin, CA
The EMC Shop is seeking an experienced EMC Test Engineer to be a part of a team in our Rocklin facility. You will be ambitious, assertive, and creative, utilizing existing resources (test equipment inventory) to expand our testing lab. Regular collaboration with coworkers and customers to identify needs, generating creative solutions and helping bring business in the door. We will identify unique areas of need, identify niches, outperform other test labs and build our reputation. As this sector succeeds, we will be expanding test capabilities, achieving accreditation, and hiring additional technical personnel.
Measures for Success
- Repair oriented – proven history of fixing and calibrating EMC/RF equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair amps, power supplies, transient generators, EMI analyzers, etc.
- Delivers projects on time or early (Self-determined deadlines).
- Identification, review, and improvements in deficient areas, processes.
- Support revenue growth for testing services.
- Ability to adapt to unique customer requirements.
- Displays continual positive attitude and desire to improve.
Duties
- Perform EMC testing to MIL, IEC, CISPR and other common standards.
- Identify assets from inventory to expand testing capabilities.
- Generate EMC test plans and test reports.
- Review, analyze, and interpret EMC and RF test results; communicate accordingly to customers and sales staff.
- Develop and validate EMC test setups for emissions and immunity per test methods such as CISPR25, ISO-11452-2, -4, ISO-7637-2, -3, ISO-10605, IEC 61000-4-2, -3, -4, -6.
Requirements
- Do not suffer from Analysis Paralysis. You must be able to research, generate understanding and execute in a timely manner.
- Strong electronics/electrical engineering background with minimum bachelor’s degree or four years of military service.
- Hands-on familiarity with RF amplifiers, spectrum analyzers, antennas, transient generators, and high power AC inputs.
- Experience in performing troubleshooting for EMI/EMC issues.
- Understanding of FCC and European regulatory requirements.
- Performed EMC Testing per various standards such as ISO 7637, CISPR 25, EN 55022/ EN 55024, IEC 61000-4-x, FCC Part 15B, etc.
- Knowledge on how to make test setups and perform tests such as Conducted Emissions, Radiated Emissions, Radiated/Conducted Immunity, ESD, EFT, Surge. Analyze and process test data.
- Assist with sample receiving, logging, and preparation.
- Experience with EMC test automation software.
- Experience testing DC EUT. Desirable experience in EMC testing for automotive.
- Experience on generating detailed EMC test plans and EMC test reports.
- Basic understanding of Electromagnetic theory applied to EMC testing.
- Working knowledge of analog and digital electronics.
- Desired hands-on experience in debugging radiated and conducted emissions and immunity issues, design modifications, including soldering components, assembly of wiring harnesses and fixtures.
- Familiar with communication protocols like CAN, LIN, Ethernet, USB for product instrumentation and communication monitoring for EMC testing.
- Understanding of ISO-17025 laboratory accreditation process and maintenance is a plus.
- Self-starter, energizing, results-oriented, and ability to multi-task. Excellent teamwork, coordination and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to meet aggressive delivery targets.
- Must be self-managed and committed to working in a fast-paced environment.
