Responsible to provide direct patient care, identifies and meets patient needs under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Graduate from a Surgical Technology Program
- Must be certified surgical technologist (ORT)
- Must have CPR certification within 90 days of hire
EXPERIENCE:
- Working knowledge of planning perioperative patient care and transporting the perioperative patient.
- Five years' scrub experience
- Designed, implemented, and educated staff on two or more in-services

- Performs technical skills required to prepare for surgical procedures. Assists other perioperative team members in the care of the surgical patient.
- Prepares sterile field according to policy.
- Demonstrates knowledge of sterile draping.
- Maintains correct sharps, sponges, and instrument count according to policy.
- Maintains aseptic technique according to standard.
- Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
- Assists in maintenance and care of specimens according to policy.
- Follows OSHA and Universal Precautions as per standard.
- Sets up using Aseptic Technique.
- Maintains working knowledge of case cart system and on-call responsibilities.
- Obtain and label physician ordered medications for use on the sterile field under the direct supervision of the RN.
- Transportation of patient/equipment/supplies.

- Must be able to lift, move and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis.
- Must be able to read and write legibly in English.
- Hearing within normal range is required (ie., to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitors, etc.)
- Visual acuity must be within normal range.
- Must be able to perform heavy work: exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

- Exposure to toxic gas, fumes, and odor.
- Exposure to high stress and constant interruptions.
- Exposure to electrical current.
- Exposure to radiation from x-rays.
