POSITION SUMMARY
Pay range: $44.51/hr - $67.20/hr
The RN for Cardiology Clinic is a key member of the multi-disciplinary patient care team, which includes physicians, medical assistants, schedulers, and other clinical and management support staff.
Responsibilities include direct patient care, cardiac device interrogation and triage, telephone triage, clinical portions of pre-authorizations, participation in quality improvement, program and staff development within cardiology.
Requires independent critical thinking, case management, engagement in transitions of care, and the ability to appropriately triage patients with complex, multi-system medical problems. The RN must be able to work as a team with providers, nurses, medical assistants, schedulers, and all other disciplines as needed, and functions in a collaborative manner to ensure effective and timely communication with the patient, family, and other team members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES –
Performed majority of the time:
- Apply critical thinking skills and ability to independently, within your scope, perform initial assessment and interpretation of device interrogation data, manage patient assessment and planning, My Chart messages, phone calls, and routed EPIC encounters.
- Assess status of patient and function of implanted device, troubleshooting issues as they arise, coordinating with care team as required.
- Nurse visits with and without a provider for case management, triage, and patient education.
- Return calls to patients about lab/test results, check on blood pressure logs, wound care, answer medication and device questions.
- Assess the physical, emotional, social, and educational needs of patients who are calling or coming into the cardiology clinic in a comprehensive and systematic manner, including patient history.
- Take initiative to review patient charts before provider visits in preparation for patient assessment.
- Assist with prior authorizations and FMLA paperwork as needed.
- Monitor non-episodic data to meet guideline-directed therapy goals.
- Referral review as needed.
- Effectively communicate to providers, patients, and other staff as needed (Epic, Outlook, telephone, in person) and in a timely manner.
- Provide appropriate education to patients and families and ensuring support is tailored to the patients' needs (medication, disease-specific advice, etc.).
- Write brief encounter summaries with the main cardiac studies' results.
- Be able to evaluate cardiologic issues and understand the management goals and options.
Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:
- Assist with clinical flow and rooming assessment as needed for break and lunch coverage, staffing shortages, and as directed by Practice Manager.
Decision making and budget responsibilities:
Impact limited to the employee. No budget responsibilities.

Experience:
Required
- Minimum one (1) year of experience with general cardiology patient population and working with patients with implanted cardiac devices.
- Previous experience interrogating cardiac devices (ICD, Pacemakers, etc.).
- Experience in an ambulatory clinic setting.
Preferred
- Demonstrated experience in patient and family education, including development of teaching materials.
- Current competency with EPIC EMR.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
Required
- Current, unencumbered Oregon RN license.
- Current American Heart Association BLS required at time of hire.
