The postdoc will be responsible for carrying out research in maize transformation technologies as part of NSF funded grant MCB -2424271.
KEY DUTIES:
- 70 %: Conduct research on morphogenic-based systems for transformation.
- 10 %: Analyze research data and prepare manuscripts for publication.
- 15 %: Mentor and train undergraduate students in the lab; participate in outreach activities.
- 5 %: Present research findings at local and international conferences.
LEVEL OF DECISION MAKING:
The postdoc will design and carry out experiments, particularly the regeneration of maize plants from tissue culture, and maize transformation of embryos and leaves. Constant troubleshooting and optimization of protocols is expected.
SCOPE & IMPACT:
The position involves complex experimental research on protein-DNA interaction, promoting plant regeneration, requiring technical expertise and independent problem-solving. The scope includes the specific project, collaboration with other labs involved in the NSF-funded project, mentoring undergraduates, contributions to outreach activities, and contributing to publications, conferences, and future grant proposals.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience:
The candidate must have a PhD degree in Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field by the position’s start date. Experience in molecular cloning, plant tissue culture, confocal microscopy, protein expression and characterization, and protein-DNA interactions. The candidate should be highly motivated, organized, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Previous experience in bioinformatic analysis, plant tissue culture, and plant transformation (excluding Arabidopsis nuclear transformation) are highly desirable.
