Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing general nursing care to patients, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with physician’s orders and established standards and protocols. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.
Essential Functions:
- Provides skilled nursing care to patients as ordered by the physician and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Implements orders for medications and treatments as ordered by the physician and in accordance with nursing care plan as written by the RN.
- Provides information to the Registered Nurse to assist in the development of an individualized plan of care for each patient.
- Participates in evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions in relation to patient responses and seeks guidance in redirection when necessary.
- Reports to supervisor on patient care rendered, problems concerning patients’ needs, and resolution to those needs.
- Helps identify patient problems and potential risks and contributes to the development of interventions.
- Assists in identification of patient’s learning needs and reinforces self-care and other techniques.
- Appropriately designates applicable charges to individual patients using the hospital’s established system.
- May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
- Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
- Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Minimum Job Requirements
Minimum Education & Experience:
- Two years’ experience in inpatient hospital setting, inpatient rehabilitation experience preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation:
- Current state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse required.
- Current CPR certification required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and adherence to current nursing theory and practice and infection prevention standards of practice.
- Knowledge of accreditation standards to ensure adherence to all standards set forth by state and accrediting agencies of TJC and CMS.
- Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures, and utilizes proper policies, procedures, and guidelines in caring for patients.
- Demonstrates general computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection prevention standards.
- Ability to work independently.

- Ability to work closely and professionally with others at all levels of the organization.
Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift:
- A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods of time.
- Both gross and precise motor functions.
- Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs.
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
- Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care.
- Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
- Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
- Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
