Job Purpose:
The primary goal of a Dental Lab Manager (DLM) is to coordinate all dental lab activities and ensure that the program and system for the dental lab are functioning at optimum capacity.
Duties:
- Administer daily activity of the dental lab with the guidance of the Director of Dental.
- Supervise staff and evaluate service delivery to ensure patients are receiving the best quality care.
- Monitor service delivery for quality and timeliness.
- Maintain a high degree of accuracy and accountability in the program.
- Build strong positive communication with physicians and work as a team to enhance the success of the practice.
- Develop strong inter-department teamwork to meet the needs of the patients and physicians and drive decision-making and other actions.
- Maintain records of material used for each case.
- Train new technicians in St Hope Protocol.
- Build and repair dental appliances.
- Fabricate crowns and bridges, full and partial dentures, dental implants, mouthguards, orthodontics, and other dental appliances.
- Use common dental lab tools, including porcelain ovens and furnaces, pinning equipment, and lathes.
- Use common computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software.
- Follow standard laboratory safety protocols, operating procedures (SOPs), and prescriptions.
- Adhere to lab processes and procedures and industry standards.
- Identify and implement opportunities to build employee morale and individual motivation.
- Plan, evaluate, recommend, and implement new initiatives when appropriate.
- Monitor, coach, develop, and evaluate performance of staff on an ongoing basis in accordance with applicable performance standards.
- Be responsible for assuring customer/patient service needs are met.
- Coordinate cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of the working environment.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related tasks as assigned.
Education and/or Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3 years of management experience working in a dental laboratory setting.
- Good computer skills - keyboarding.
- Highly organized and able to work with frequent interruptions.
- Excellent communication skills.
Licensures/Certifications:
- Certifications and/or training in customer service management.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk working at a computer.
- Able to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally without assistance.
- Able to travel as needed.
