Overview:
Performs ECGs to obtain tracings from patients. Enters patient identification number into computer, logs tracings and performs some editing functions. Performs clerical duties in CVP department as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certifications: CPR certification required.
Job Description:
Safety/Risk Management:
Communicates to the immediate supervisor any abnormalities in daily routines such as physicians or patient concerns, equipment malfunction or any other information pertinent to patient safety and department functioning.
Coordination of Services:
- Makes self available for performing duties and communicates with team members to assure prompt performance of duties.
- Accepts delegation of tasks.
- Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgment in use of time.
- Assists in the orientation of new personnel and personnel from other areas as required.
- Demonstrates responsibility for checking orders and obtaining orders for testing.
- Assists all other staff members with completion of duties when needed.
- Participates in activities that ensure and enhance quality of patient care.
- Participates in the monitoring and evaluation of the units Q.I. program.
- Demonstrates proficiency in documenting Q.I. form and follow-up as needed.
Basic Aspects:
- Performs diagnostic testing using appropriate type of equipment within the proper time frame for the specific test.
- Identifies and marks tracing as necessary for testing.
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of related anatomy in placing leads correctly for all types of testing (EKG, Stress and Event Monitors).
- Processes test results correctly, including entry of data into computers, editing of stored data and filing and retrieval of all procedures in the department.
- Obtains a complete and accurate history on all patients when indicated.
- Acquires adequate supplies to perform daily care.
- Performs clerical duties as necessary (i.e., schedules patients, answers phone, faxes reports).
- Shows initiative in completing filing, thinning of files and periodic organization of files and computer records when not performing other duties.
- Demonstrates knowledge of cost containment without compromising patient outcome.
Communication Management:
- Provides patients and their families with explanations of care and psychological support under the direction of the Department Policies and Procedures.
- Notifies immediate supervisor of problems/concerns within the department.
Technology:
- Maintains and handles equipment according to manufacturers specifications.
- Performs daily QA checks on equipment as needed.
