POSITION SUMMARY:
The Principal Engineer II, reporting to the Executive Director of Engineering, Health Services will work with various trains within the Health Services team to develop and execute an enhanced customer experience and increase the customer usage of our various applications within our Minute Clinic. As a Principal Engineer II, you will be directly solving how to drive additional traffic and increase participation of our digital services and developing new approaches. You will partner with architects, product managers, data scientists, and fellow engineers to build products which will be used to improve the health outcomes of millions of people. You are considered a subject matter expert in software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle by working with architecture and product teams. This includes coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. You will be responsible for serving as the principal technical engineer for up to 2 engineering trains where you will lead the efforts to modernize all of our systems as well as come up with new and innovative ideas to increase the usage of all programs within our Minute Clinic.
About This Business Unit:
The Health Services team is comprised of numerous trains that support, enhance, and create new programs and services that support our Minute Clinic. This primarily includes our virtual care program as well as the visit manager program. The development of these programs will help build our next-generation platform to ensure the delivery of use cases into products focusing on helping people live healthier lives. In this role and within this team, you will work on applications and products that are on the forefront of technology.
Work Breakdown Structure For This Role:
In this role, you will be spending 50% of time hands-on with NodeJS, Angular, AEM, DevOps, Google Cloud Platform, and similar technologies. You will be mentoring/guiding team members 25% of the time and you will be partnering with product, architecture, data science, and engineering the estimated remaining 25%. You will demonstrate executive-level qualities, lead the conversation, have an eye for great design, provide hands-on coding as required, and have a proven track record of pushing projects from conception to customers.
Expected KPI's For This Role:
- In the pre-planning process, responsible for reviewing features and epics with the product team and providing feedback through continuous refinement.
- Will additionally provide collaboration/contribution with architecture on POCs, runway items, and technical artifacts.
- Act as an executive technical leader across strategic efforts, leveraging partners, technical leads, and technical expertise to better inform processes and outcomes.
- Provide knowledge and engineering insight to guide early designs, accelerate project decision-making, and maintain close oversight of technical execution.
- Create and implement new customer approaches within Minute Clinic to increase participation and repeat usage.
- Participate in design reviews and recommend improvements.
- Be a technologist and work with other Engineers in planning, prioritizing, and performing assigned tasks within deadlines.
- Be an advocate for and implementer of security best practices.
- Design solutions to create best-in-class Engineering Practices.
- Adopt and apply industry technology best practices.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of software development in enterprise/web/cloud applications.
- 7+ years as a Full Stack developer with lead developer experience.
- 5+ experience with SAFe/Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
- 3+ years of experience with cloud computing technologies and possess a strong track record developing in the GCP environment.
- 3+ experience with Stack Reviews, Code Reviews, Improvement, Best Practices, Mentor Technical Staff, Solutioning Experience.
- 3+ experience with Nodejs, AngularJS, or other open-source technologies/frameworks.
- 2+ experience with creating Microservices and API's.
- 3+ experience with container orchestration technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, or Serverless Products (i.e., Cloud Run) and Vagrant.
- 3+ experience in having architected, designed, delivered, and/or operationalized scalable microservices-based web/webservices applications in cloud-native environments.
- 2+ years of experience of working in CI/CD pipeline.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Able to influence and present sound and well-reasoned positions to persuade individuals in a way that results in agreement or behavior change.
- Experience in having architected, designed, delivered, and operationalized scalable microservices-based web/webservices applications in cloud-native environments.
- Self-starter who can see the big picture and prioritize their work to make the largest impact on the business and customers' vision and requirements.
- Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks like Jasmine/Karma, Jest.
- Experience with creating Active/Active and DR setup of web applications.
- Understand security threats and patterns and ensure adherence to all regulatory initiatives, HIPAA, PHI, PII, locational and contractual data restrictions.
- Experience with DevOps technologies like Maven, Gradle, Jenkins, CircleCI, and Harness.
- Exposure to service mesh platforms, such as Istio, Consul, Kuma.
- Experience designing and implementing Caching strategies using in-memory datastores like REDIS and HazelCast and make them scalable for use at the Enterprise level.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or equivalent work experience.
Pay Range:
The typical pay range for this role is: $140,000.00 - $280,000.00. This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography, and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission, or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
